Someone's got an awesome beard! hehe! Also I love the symbol on the shield! Is there a story behind the critter or just a random choice?

Indeed! Looks perfect for a transition to a fantasy character ^^. Ah, I see! That's really cool that they all picked totems ^^

Ah, so that's how you handle your commissions in general? Kind of like a form to fill in all the details you'd need to draw the art?

Pretty much. Its mainly up to my own imagination to put the data together, come up with a design and make it in such a way to be good enough to convince the client. In many cases, while the client had another image in their minds about the characters, they found my design better than they have imagined. But, of course, there are those cases where the client hangs tight on his or her own initial idea so tightly that many rounds of changes go back and forth before a character takes shape.Β

That seems like a really good idea though. Because so often clients tend to forget details that we artists need to really get a good feel for the character or a simple detail we need to know. I know even AS an artist myself that sometimes when I commission someone else I either dump a whole paragraph of information on someone and feel I'm overwhelming them or I've forgotten a little detail here or there that seems like an obvious point to make and had to be asked for the answer. Having a form to fill out definitely helps to ask for many details up front. ^^

Well, in all honesty it didn't start like that. When I started freelancing it was more like the client was telling me a short story about the character and I was "guessing" how the character looks and poses. It was all nice and fine until I bumped into a string of clients that kept requiring changes after changes after changes until the whole commission wasn't worth the initial payment. So y partners and I came with the guide and also put in place a limited numbers of free changes. Once those are exhausted, the client needs to pay for changes. Its more a strategy to "encourage" the client to think from the start what they want rather than gain money.Β

That makes sense to me and seems perfectly fair. The more detailed the better, so long as the details are, indeed, the ones you need! And it isn't really fun to keep constantly making a bunch of changes for a client that is extremely nitpicky. It is your time and energy. So it all makes sense to me.

Yes, each has an animal totem of some kind. Glad you like this one too. Quite a few more to follow in time. Β
