I actually penned a sketch for once!With this one I tried to give an old school look to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, because in my eyes the game is already a classic. Like those other retro Super Mario displays they usually highlighted the flight power-up, so I did the same. But I also wanted Mario riding Yoshi... So he's sort of half riding Yoshi and half using his power-up, heh.

Man, this is amazing. The life and heart that's put into this can't measure up to the official cover design.
I look at this, "OH WOAH! THIS LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN!"
Nintendo's design, "Oh... This is... uh, well, it's Mario, so it should be fun."
I don't know if cost has something to do with it, if rendering a 3D image from the game is cheaper and quicker than fully illustrating one, but it would be amazing if they went back to this kind of style for advertisements.
