I only support abortion in necessary circumstances.

I hate that emotion responses override our logic and critical thinking centres of the brain. It's sad that many people fall into the trap of being dictated fully by their emotions, rather than combining both logic and emotion to reach sensible solutions and conclusions to problems...
If people could justΒ think things through rather than letting others manipulate their emotions and decide for them, we probably wouldn't have this mess of a world in the first place. Abortion would be legalised everywhere.
In Ireland it's illegal to get an abortion within the country, which means if you're suicidal or have a fatal complication and are too poor to go abroad... it is extremely likely you're going to die. I don't think that it's right to force women who don't want to have a baby to go through the 9 months and have it against their will, yet that's the reality in Ireland for many women...
Some Pro-lifers Really Need to Understand This...Ireland has had anti-abortion laws for around 30 years now. It has proven time and time again that anti-abortion laws do not even prevent abortion, and they make it very dangerous for a poor woman to be pregnant, especially if she develops a lethal abnormality.
This is what anti-abortion laws mean in Ireland.
Sick women are legally unable to receive the help that they need until they are at literally about to die.Women who have illnesses like cancer, heart diseaseΒ or organ damage are unable to get help at all during pregnancy.
25000Β women have travelled abroad to the UK in just the last 5 years,Β desperately seeking much needed terminations. And these are just the lucky ones who can afford it.Β In some cases, doctors are unable to access information on certain birth prΒ
Ireland, We Really Need To Have This Talk...Let me begin by asking you two simple questions:
Do you believe that you have the right to what happens to your own body?
Β Do you believe in freedom of speech, without the threat of persecution?Β
I'll let you ponder that for a few seconds...
I have the right to free speech, and in this journal I intend to exercise it. I am being incredibly careful in my wording so as not to break any laws, but I shouldn't have to worry about freedom of speech and my right to speak freely on topics. This concern in itself is a sign that something is terribly wrong in the country of Ireland.
* * *
Today, I'm going to try tackling two very sensitive issues. I understand that writing about this may result in a heated debate, serious backlash of comments, and watchers unwatching, but I don't mind that. This is a discussion that is too often avoided that we really should talk aboutΒ I wrote these journals if you're interested btw, as well as created a pro-choice group (see link below). Β

It is pretty sad, but unfortunately that's the reality of the world we live in today. Sadly it seems to be moving in that direction in the United States as well. They aren't going to completely eradicate abortion per say, but they do want to make it extremely difficult, especially not allowing women to get one covered by Medicaid for example.Β
I don't think it's right to force women to have a baby either.

Pro-lifers have a hero-complex. They complain about abortion butΒ take photos of it so they can, in the words of Tony Montana "point their f*cking fingers and say THAT'S THE BAD GUY!"
Β
Also, you have to question the reasoning of people who possess pictures of naked children drenched in bodily fluids. They remind me of a certain other group of people that only the Vatican would sympathise with.

I hate it when pro lifers use scare tactics like pictures of dead fetuses to make you agree with them.

I love the ones who call pro choicers evil, yet exploit miscarriage photos at the expense of the woman who lost that pregnancy. Last I checked, exploiting people wasn't a good thing to do.

Would say that baby is far too developed to be a fetus?
Using someone already dead is extremely questionable. (Uhm... guys?) But that's hardly any real evidence against them. That being said.... it would be smart for them to find a more fitting picture to support their point.

MauEvig In reply to Jblask [2012-03-18 15:58:44 +0000 UTC]
Exactly what I mean. They use the icon of an already dead fetus to support their point. So yes it would be smart for them to find something else.
Yay we agree on something! XD

it's meant more to make the viewer not want to have an abortion not save that one. ya know.
Thaaat being said...yeah... it would be smart if they got a better picture to support their argument. Though funnily enough I've never seen thta image till now.

Nice Avatar by the way! ^^
That's also a good point. If the pro-lifers are REALLY all about adoption, then we should get rid of invetro.

Of course, it's hard not to listen when they're cranked up at full volume and you're surrounded by it everywhere you go, whether it's bumper stickers, or hearing your family rave on about it. *sigh*

My mother, thank starclan, is a jebus freak, BUT she is prochoice. Thank starclan for not taking away rights.
I mean cmon, girls fought for equal rights, wether it is to vote or anything else. Now we females are trying to take away our own freedom of choice? It makes me sick.

You might want to make the wording more clear. Using dead fetuses to frighten others and show how horribul!1!!1 abortion is isn't hypocritical, but they're using dead fetuses as if they were alive to represent how precious life is - when, in fact, the pictured 'life' is deceased.
π: 0 β©: 1
MauEvig In reply to Seitar [2012-03-18 01:52:11 +0000 UTC]
It's still hypocritical. That's the point of the stamp. I'm referring to the latter part of your statement.

I'll keep that in mind for future stamps.

1sonichufan [2012-03-18 01:42:31 +0000 UTC]
why is it hypocritical
π: 0 β©: 1
MauEvig In reply to 1sonichufan [2012-03-18 01:46:37 +0000 UTC]
Because if they're pro-life...they shouldn't be using those images as icons and such to illustrate the "so-called" beauty of a developing fetus and discourage people from getting abortions. x.x
Blech.
π: 0 β©: 1
1sonichufan In reply to MauEvig [2012-03-18 01:48:35 +0000 UTC]
that's not what they are trying to illustrate, they are trying to illustrate the ugly nature of an abortion that is what you are pulling out of your uterus
π: 0 β©: 1
1sonichufan In reply to MauEvig [2012-03-18 01:53:24 +0000 UTC]
oh, well still they just want you to think about what you're doing before you abort it
π: 0 β©: 1
MauEvig In reply to 1sonichufan [2012-03-18 01:54:16 +0000 UTC]
Fair enough. Then they shouldn't be using a DEAD fetus to do so. XP
Hence why it's hypocritical.
π: 0 β©: 1
1sonichufan In reply to MauEvig [2012-03-18 01:58:01 +0000 UTC]
well they are just trying to show that a dead fetus still looks like a baby, i don't know if it's hypocritical. i doubt they killed the baby in order to take the picture, it was probably aborted by someone else and they took a picture of the fetus in the jar. hypocritical would be them aborting babies when they say they are against abortion
π: 0 β©: 1
MauEvig In reply to 1sonichufan [2012-03-18 02:04:07 +0000 UTC]
Looks more like an alien to me...but then again...babies kind of creep me out anyway...so in my own case...they've actually made their argument even worse in their own favor at least when it comes to me.
*shrugs* To each their own, but I think it's hypocritical to use a dead fetus as an icon. Just saying.
