Wow, Laser guns now? I like you characters a lot, but for some reason I keep getting more drawn to their weapons. Phenice's halberd, that barbarian girl's sword, and now these wicked blasters!
...

I feel like I'm appreciating the wrong part of the picture, but I can't help it.

To answer you, since it's my character, this is not blasters but some kind of personal rail gun.

That's really funny, it seems that many people see her in the universe of Shadowrun, I don't really know why since she's don't have obvious cyberware and she's not an elf with guns so it could match with a lot of modern and futuristic settings...
Well, anyway, she's not from Shadowrun since she's from a personnal universe of mine. However, as I'm a huge shadowrun player, I tend to like this reference. (And I must say that she share a lot of things (but not all, that's not the same character after all) with one of my old SR character...)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dopelganger98 In reply to DeeKov [2016-03-03 17:23:16 +0000 UTC]

I understand she isn't an elf, but i've even had a few plain human characters for shadowrun, and no cyber or magic, just gear as a Street samurai, my main thing for the character was having my edge maxed so i hardly failed something if i didn't want toΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeeKov In reply to Dopelganger98 [2016-03-03 17:35:59 +0000 UTC]

I agree she could be in SR, I just mean, that you're not the first asking if she was from Shadowrun and it was surprising to me since for a human character without obvious cyber, there is a plenty of other universe possible. (I mean a cyber elf, yes, there is few universe, Shadowrun is in a good place, but here I was surprise to see Shadowrun mentinned by different people, but that's great, it's cool to see Shadowrun popular)

About the edge, I know some character of this kind too. To be honnest, I'm not very fond of that. I mean, I think better things happened when your character have weakness and when he's unable to do something (I don't talk about failling to do anything of course). So this kind of character that could succeed anything tend to annoy me as a GM. That said, whatever the stats are it's always about how player plays their character, so in the end, I don't care that much ^^

Do you play in 4th or 5th edition ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dopelganger98 In reply to DeeKov [2016-03-04 15:12:25 +0000 UTC]

no i fully understand that kind of character to not fail is annoying but he did still have his faults and skills he didn't do good with or had no clue... if it was magic god help him he might still try and shoot it cause he has no idea and it didn't work even when i used edge. So yes he succeeded alot but he did fail, and knew little of high tech stuff.Β

I have actually played 3rd, 4th, and 5th... i actually got the have Steve Tinner as a GM for Shadowrun 5th ed. and he was one of the guys helping them basically make the rules and test stuff for missions for the game. but i would so play some more 5th edition and all that still, just haven't had the chance too

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeeKov In reply to Dopelganger98 [2016-03-04 15:23:23 +0000 UTC]

Your character seems enough balanced for me then

Ah I can understand... I've played SR from the 2nd Edition to the 5th. I didn't played a lot to the 5th though... However I was a playtester for the 4th and a contributor of the lasts 3rd Ed sourcebook (Shadows of Asia and the unreleased Shadows of Latin America) and in the begining of the 4th Ed (Street Magic, Augmentation, Arsenal and the Germano-french sourcebook SOX). However after that Rob Boyle and Sinner let the led developpment into Jason Hardy's hand I let a little bit shadowrun aside (No time to play, not fond of Hardy's direction and I started to work on my project Spectrum for myself)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dopelganger98 In reply to DeeKov [2016-03-04 15:32:50 +0000 UTC]

yeah he was balanced, and it was only towards the end of the campaign that he just started to learn hacking from the Decker in the group, which he still sucked at

That's awesome, i'd love to be able to help with playtesting and making those games more. Steve would playtest SR 5th edition missions on my group of players before they published them just to see how hard the mission really was. and i've seen the street magic book and more, 4th ed was some awesome fun playing. Β
It's awesome to talk to and meet someone else who has helped with the progression of shadowrun, and maybe send me the link or something on Spectrum? i love seeing new games and everything

I can not claim any great effort on my part since Google Chrome is now translating entire pages for you if you let it.

Of course with writing the devil is in the details. Β Being a would be writer myself knows too well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeeKov In reply to Gnoll-El [2016-03-04 20:38:15 +0000 UTC]

That's true. But that's cool anyway if you could go with that. So, what do you think about her story for what you see ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gnoll-El In reply to DeeKov [2016-03-07 19:07:39 +0000 UTC]

Some of it got me locked into reading; some of it not so much. Β I would say Google translates still needs to improve before I make judgement of the merits of the writing. Β Like consistent Β use of the feminine and masculine pronouns.

I down loaded the game and, from what little I could read, was impressed by its system and the over all lay-out. Β Very well done. Β Far better than the 4th edition Shadowrun where it was a pain hunting for basic rules.

A question I have is: does it provide for Shadowrun type "glitches" where too many ones causes bad things to happen?

I could see using it for Β "Dirty Pair" or "Cowboy Bebop" type runs.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeeKov In reply to Gnoll-El [2016-03-07 21:01:08 +0000 UTC]

Yep, google don't like feminine pronouns...Β

Thanks you for you interest and comment.

The 4th edition of shadowrun was released too quickly. We had not much of playtest before the release and nearly half the draft were heavily changed between the lasts playtest reports and the final edits... That mean ton of untested rules, mistakes in rewriting others rules or missing references and so on...
However I must say that shadowrun rules are more complexe, more simulative and the 4th edition aside the big changes in the core rules still had 15 years history to take into account... My rules was designed to be less complex and less simulative in many area...

And to answer you, in my system, you throw 3 dice, on of them is the "explosive dice". If he get a 1, then a glitch could happen. That mean statistically you have 1 chance on 6 to have a glitch. But glitch don't necessary mean failure. You can glitch and still succeed your action. But if the GM is inspired he could had funny or dramatic effect to the action. That's not an obligation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gnoll-El In reply to DeeKov [2016-03-08 21:58:46 +0000 UTC]

My biggest complaint about 4th edition is too much "scene setting" got in the way of the ability to finding things quickly in the rules (and there are a lot of rules to go through).

That and it got to be a little too much for a GM to consider all the complexities of an advance internet world. Β Something experts now can't do.

Β
