Description For this months theme "Odd Forest" at *childrensillustrator

A little kitten lost, a kind act towards a neighbor...the man who's escorted his elderly neighbor to the dark, cold forest to find her lost (and completely unrepentant) kitten is probably more scared than she is. I have the sense that she is grateful (and a little embarressed at the situation) and wants to comfort him in return for his act of kindness. Things always look so different and scary in the dark...

I wanted to work on something loose and quick, and this was a first attempt at producing something finished in PS, which I'm a complete bonehead at using. Theres a tiny bit of finishing up in Painter here, just for my own comfort, not particulary because I couldn't have finished it in PS I dunno...I like PS, but it doesn't feel natural to me yet.

My first thoughts for completing something along the theme were more fantastical, but I ended up being drawn to something more reality based...I don't know if I'm happy with this or not. There are so many interesting directions to head with this theme, it was hard to pick one

About 10 hours total, PS and Painter, wacom Intuos tablet.

Shoot, I thought I commented on this???? 10 hours in PS. Woman, you are good. I wish I could do that in that time. But then, I always have trouble with getting my anatomy right, too...

I love the faces in the trees. And the owl (is it an owl?) hiding in the big one's mouth

Yeah, me too I tried reloading it a few times (and tried reloading my Seraph painting, stupid me posted the WRONG one, with clouds unblended) but no luck...wahhhhh.....

I hope it's just a problem with DA and it will be fixed soon...

Thanks, hon I probably needs a bit of cleaning up in the area of the trees, but...well, I didn't want to overwork it at this point I like the idea of the story, we'll see if I do anything with it

Oh, and I never had time to join the club. My mom decided to move, so I got busy with that
I moved with her, to a farm! It's fun there =^_^=
*goes to the club* Time to join =^_^=

I didn't know you'd moved So now you're a farm girl? That's great...I grew up on a little farm, it can be a lot of work, but most of it is oriented towards taking care of animals/plants or the land, so it's not a bad deal

Yeah, send them a request to join. I think you have to have a certain amount of childrens' illustration type work in your gallery, and I don't really know how much, but it's worth a shot Either way, they're a fun group to watch, there is some interesting work going up each month!

I think now, after I moved account, I think most of my gallery is child friendly and colorful drawings. A good amount of them actually is on the walls of my little one year old nieces room. In my opinion, at least 30 of my deviations would be very fitting as a child's illustration (the rest is colorful but for 10 year old boys so depends on the age group aimed for ) =^_^=

And jup! I'm a farm girl now =^_^=
We don't help out on the farm chores thou, as it's not our farm yet. My mothers new man is the oldest son, and will take over in a year and a half (he helps out sometimes, but only if his parents rely need him to. He has some issues with them )

I wish I could see it in full view *shakes fist at DA*
The story is beautiful, and for what I see the art looks as great as all you're works =^_^=
I'll come back to it later when DA lets it show

Thank you, I have an overabundance of story ideas at the moment, but no time to develop them further than just a concept illustration. Hopefully I'll have a bleak spell at some point and will pick up these ideas again

Yeah, DA is having a tough time at the moment, I suspect...I've seen other works now that won't full view, so it's probably not just mine

Thanks, I need to stretch a bit every now and then, I get bored working one style too much

I tend to do that with other stuff. Like I'll go from sewing clothes, to making shoes, to singing, to dancing, to wanting to fix comps. I wish I could do it all. I am currently working on another pair of shoes though.

I love your art but often the little words that accompany it are as touching or more than the art itself. I love both the work and your interpretation of it.

naughty kitty.

I think that's a wonderful scene. A time past, when neighbors used to help each other more. Well, at least where I live.

Thank you, dear I've actually worked this out of an idea for a childrens' book, a child who is afraid of the dark, and a father remembering (from this experience) how he once felt afraid. I think a nightlight is somewhere in the happy ending

Aw, thanks I'm always a bit nervous about drawing people, though it's easier when it's not a portrait Anyway, this was a nice quick painting, so not too painful!

Thank you. It was nice working with a muted palette on this, I actually tend to prefer that, even though I don't employ it as much lately
