Reminds me of the book "American Gods", since there was a 7-foot-tall leprechaun who I actually visualized as skinny and lanky just like this. Except green instead of red, obviously. But who says leprechauns can't be clad in red. Maybe he's the leprechaun king.

May I have permission to use this for a Rise of the Guardians website I role play on?

I like that its not short, in the original myths they were actually the tallest of the fae.

While this does look cool, shouldn't this character be called a far darrig (what with the red clothes)?

I actually love this design-the use of the pot-of-gold as a litteral weapon was clever. Leprechauns are mischevous creatures after all.
Furthermore, I have to note that the use of red was pretty cool. Not sure if you knew this or not, but, traditionally, leprechauns actually wore red, as they were solitary faeries.
The colony-based, social faes wore green instead.
Overall, I love this picture and I can't stress enough how much I love it. The lack of background is sort-of distracting but this is design-based anyway. I hope your professor (?) was impressed with this too.

Thanks, I knew that in some versions of folklore they wore red, but i didn't know anything about the solitary vs social faeries. Thats really kind of neat to know.
Yeah, it was definitely a little slap-dash without a background or anything, but lately i've been pretty good about doing more full-blown pictures. Thanks for the kind words!

I love it...
Great choice of colors.
I was getting tired of every leprechaun picture I found being green.
Your choice is very... original.
Good job... :]

I like that you went for a tall leprechaun, and I like the balance in the stance - but the best thing is the detail on the costume, all the buttons and buckles, and the great gold pattern down the leg.

where do you study??? i wished to have this kind of assignment.
sometimes i think i picked the wrong career.
awesome job man just brilliant, i liked a lot the "cheesy" pot-o'-gold morning star.
i do agree however with ~TindersFluke, green is iconic of the leprechauns, BUT i do understand having or wanting to get out of the normal or standard things.
It's a great concept and i aplaud the courage of getting out of the common things.
great job.

Just because he's tall doesn't mean he's not small. For all we know he could be the size of a soda can to us, but compared to other fairies he could play basket ball. Just like there are tall humans why not tall fairies.

i'm down at Ringling, in sarasota, florida. what is your career?
wikipedia says this about leprechauns:
The leprechaun originally had a different appearance depending on where in Ireland he was found.[11] Prior to the 20th century, it was generally agreed that the leprechaun wore red and not green. Samuel Lover, writing in the 1831 describes the leprechaun as,
... quite a beau in his dress, notwithstanding, for he wears a red square-cut coat, richly laced with gold, and inexpressible of the same, cocked hat, shoes and buckles.[12]
Yeats, in his 1888 book entitled Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry describes the leprechaun as follows:
He is something of a dandy, and dresses in a red coat with seven rows of buttons, seven buttons on each row, and wears a cocked-hat, upon whose pointed end he is wont in the north-eastern counties, according to McAnally, to spin like a top when the fit seizes him

Well consider me ignorant then! my god is good to see that you DO your research before doing stuff, man, that is good.
and the career would be graphic dessign, but as far as i can tell is more... advertising oriented here in mexico.
I on the other hand work (as an intern) at a 3danimation studio here in Cancun called dreams & motion. and i do concept art for it and character sculping.
when i get permission to upload the concepts i will.
(dunno if i should post this tho) xD

Isn't he exceptionally ... tall, for a leprechaun?
And the usage of red - exact opposite of green as his outfit, I noticed that too <33
Brilliant^^

So it was intentional anyway. Haha, no biggie.
It's really trivial really, but those sort of things help bringing some certain intrigue into works, you know.
