Description Here the original (i.e. old) version of New Austria's map profile from the RDNA-verse. The flag of which, can be found here: [link] .

In case you're wondering, yes, this is an AU counterpart of Mexico/New Spain. The Spanish colonists and their Latin/Hispanic descendants who would have otherwise settled there had long since moved to what became the Duchy of Kuba (Cuba) as the Austrian Habsburgs assumed control in the late 16th to early 17th Centuries.

You know what I just realized? Nouveau Californie in Francia Mexique is the same as Kalifornien. Half of California and 1/4 of Nevada...

It's short for "American Central Collective," a Red state linked to the Internationale based in Latin America.

An Austrian Mexico is still one of the coolest ideas I've seen on Deviantart.

Thanks!

Granted it's more Austro-Hungarian than purely German. But close enough. XD

It's a shame so much of the New World was colonized by Catholic Romance countries. Not that I have anything against them, but their culture just haven't shown the same knack for economics that Germanic culture has.

Well, in this 'verse, the Spanish and Portuguese still colonize South America, though with even more Latinization.

A Habsburg Mexico, i like it!

Now i have a question, were the Aztecs conquered and Tenochtitlan sacked, like in OTL, or did the Habsburgs undertake their colonization in a more gentler manner?

The Spanish still got to them first. But within a few decades, the Austrian Habsburgs began running things until eventually, what would be New Spain was formally ceded to Austria, many of the to-be-Hispanic colonists moving to Cuba, Peru and eventually Patagonia.

Aww, poor aztecs... lol

Why with the mass-migration of the Hispanic colonists?

They weren't so keen on having Germans and other Mitteleuropan arrivals hogging up all the glory. Also, some of them simply adopted Germanized names.

Have there been any strong independence movements?

More or less the Duchy of Kuba, having tried to go independent during the late 1920s, in the chaos following the Terror. Needless to say, it failed and led to a "common agreement" that effectively grants the island very significant autonomy.

Oh jeez, sounds like was one giant chaotic mess.

How would you say U.S.-Austrian Relations are ITL?

mdc01957 In reply to Muzik-Maniac [2011-06-14 23:13:49 +0000 UTC]

Generally neutral; at best somewhat friendly, at worst bickering. That's not counting, however, the American Federation's (the name of the US in-verse) clear distrust for notions of monarchy, which the British and New Austrians around them carry. Also, those Americans are pretty much one of the few countries who tend to refer to the RDNA as Habsburg Mexico.

Nothing like a distrust of monarchical government to create some world tension. x)

Is the RDNA a democratic monarchial regime, or absolutist?

New Austria's a (genuinely) democratic constitutional monarchy, though the system differs from the British model. However, the Habsburgs do possess some influence and power...

Archduke Maximilian can rest easy knowing that a Hapsburg sits upon the throne of Mexico.

Well, this Mexico is significantly more German (and Hungarian) than it is Spanish. But still, I guess the martyred Emperor could rest easy there.

It took some map research for that. Also, the "Portkreuz" there is basically this timeline's version of Vera Cruz.

Well, the south borders a Red Panama (though they pretty much purged that name by that point). And that the United Territories of Central America have a mixed German-French population. It's a legacy of the early Spanish cessions that allowed the existence of the RDNA (allowing other HRE members a stake in the New World).
