Description Lady Tremaine narrowed her eyes as Cindy skipped lightly across the room to open the door. Belle grinned as she stepped inside. Coming in at the front, knocking on the door and being invited in was always far better than creeping in at the back door when Lady Tremaine wasn't around.

"Belle," said Lady Tremaine in a voice that was supposed to sound cordial but never did.

"Good morning, Lady Tremaine," Belle replied politely. "Drizella, Anastasia."

The girls on the stairs ignored her as they continued to climb to the music room. "Don't shirk your work, Cinderella," said Lady Tremaine, glowering, as she followed her daughters. The second the door was closed, Cindy and Belle began to giggle. "Do you think she suspects anything yet?" Belle asked.

"Sh, Belle! She'll hear!" Cindy whispered, picking up a cloth and bucket filled with warm soapy water.

"Didn't you only clean this floor yesterday before you went to bed?" Belle asked, following her friend.

"Yes, but my stepmother wants it done again."

"She just looks for excuses to torture you, Cindy."

"Well, what can I do? Except obey her?"

"I don;t know, but there's something I can do."

"What?"

"Help," Belle replied, picking up a duster.

Cindy smiled. "Thanks, Belle."

"No problem." Belle sighed. "You know, if your father were still alive, he wouldn't stand for this."

"I know, but he isn't here. When he was dying, I promised we'd stay together as a family."

"But this isn't a family, Cindy. You're practically a prisoner here."

"Well, when I get married, everyone will be treated equally."

"Even the servants?" Belle grinned.

"Everyone, Belle. And who's to say that I'll have servants?"

"Princesses always have servants."

"Belle, stop." Cindy tried to look disapproving but she couldn't stop her lips from curling into a smile. "You've been reading too many fairytales."

"And you've not been reading enough!" Belle countered, dusting the stairs. "Cindy, you're going to marry a prince, I can feel it."

"Belle; me? A princess?" Cindy shook her head. "It's impossible!"

"Impossible," Belle sang, "for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage
Impossible for a plain country bumpkin and a prince to join in marriage
And four white mice will never be four white hourses
Such fol-de-rol and fiddle dee dee of courses
Impossible!
But the world is full of zanies and fools
Who don't believe in sensible rules
And won't believe what sensible people say
And because these daft and dewey eyed dopes
Keep building up impossible hopes
Impossible things are happening every day!
Impossible!
Impossible!
Impossible!
Impossible!Impossible!
Impossible!
Im-poss-ible!"

"Impossible!" Cindy agreed.

"Cindy, my mother used to sing that song all the time before she got sick and..." Belle closed her eyes. She didn't like to think about what had happened to her mother. In her dreams she was an angel, always. "She believed that anything was possible."

"Well, no offence, Belle; but I think she was an optomist...Oh!" Cindy snapped back to reality as she realised what had been going on whilst they had been talking. The evil Lucifer had decided to make their job a lot more difficult by treading dirty pawprints all over the floor. "Lucifer!"

"You mean old thing!" Belle cried, going for him with her dusty cloth but Lucifer hopped gleefully away, making more dirt in the process.

"I'm just going to have to teach you a lesson this time!" Cindy snapped, reaching for the broom but before she could touch the cat with it, there was a knock at the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You just wait!" Belle hissed to Lucifer who was making faces at her from behind a nearby plant pot. "One of these days, I'm going to set Bruno on you and then you'll be sorry!"

Lucifer ducked into the kitchen as Cindy came back to them, holding an envelope. "Who was that?" Belle asked.

"A messenger from the King, of all people!"

Belle smiled. "Maybe he's after you for a wife!"

"Very funny, Belle. I wonder what this is. It's for my stepmother to open. I'd better give it to her right away."

"Should we really inturupt the "music lesson," though?" Belle asked; for the noise above them could be called many things but music it was not.

"Yeah, let's just get it over and done with."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Cinderella!" snapped Lady Tremaine as the girls came into the room. "I thought I told you to-!"

"But this has just arrived from the palace," Cindy inturrupted.

"From the palace?" cried Drizella and Anastasia as one, grabbing for the letter.

"I'll read it!" Lady Tremaine commanded, taking it from them. "Hm. His Royal Highness the Prince is giving a ball tomorrow night and every eligable maid in the kingdom must attend."

"Why, that's us!" Drizella cried.

"Yeah, I'm so eligable!" Anastasia added.

Belle stifled a laugh. "Does that mean Cindy can go too?"

Before Cindy could say anything, her stepsisters laughed. "Can you imagine? Her? Dancing with the prince?"

"Well, why not?" exclaimed Cindy, standing her ground for once. "After all, I am a member of this family and it does say every eligable maiden, right, Stepmother?"

"Yes, it does," Lady Tremaine mused. "Well, I see no reason why you can't go...IF you get all your chores done..."

"Oh, I will! I will!"

"And IF you can find something suitable to wear."

"I'm sure I can! Oh, thank you, Stepmother!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second that Cindy and Belle were out of the room, they both squealed with delight and began to dance around, hugging one another. "I told you it wasn't impossible!" Belle cried, laughing.

"A ball! A real ball! At the palace!" Cindy sighed, dreamily. "Do you realise how much this could change my life around, Belle?"

"Well, it won't if we stand here talking about it," Belle cried. "Your stepmother wants you to finish your chores; and we need to find you some kind of dress to wear yet!"

"Don't worry, Belle; I have a plan about that!"

(I know the song Impossible is by Rogers and Hammerstein and NOT Disney but I couldn't resist using it!)

Rodger and Hammerstien's 'Cinderella' is my CHILDHOOD; seriously!

I just love that you used "A Lovely Night" in 'Sweet Dreams: Chapter 4'!

Yeah, well, someone once commented on how in the film it was sad because it was the only scene where they all act like a proper family for a minute, if the stepmother was nicer, so I decided to use it here!

OH!

Ha-ha-ha!!!

That is just RIGHT on target, MB! VERY clever of you!

Thanks; well, in Sweet Dreams it's kind of a role reversal:

Instead of being cruel and heartless, the stepmother and stepsisters are sweet and loving

Instead of being sweet and loving, Maurice is cruel and heartless

So it was fitting, really!

Oh, yeah...

It was a total one-eighty AND a blow to the stomach/slap to the face!

(BLUSH/CRINGE)

Sorry if it seems like I'm ranting at you, MB; I'm neither doing that, nor am I mad! Just bewildered to the Nth degree, that's all.

Why?

The thought that Lady Tremaine and Drizella could be sweet, and that Maurice could be cruel; that's all.

Again, sorry!

It's just a twist on the tales! I thought I'd make them a bit different - and it would be nice to see what it would be like if Cindy had a loving family.

I notice you didn't mention Anastasia up ther because she turns out to be nicer in two of the films!

(BLUSH)

Yeah, I get that; it was just REALLY shocking to me. I LOVE Maurice!

Kinda forgot about Anna (Anastasia Tremaine) there, for a minute.

Well, like I said, in the second and third movies she has her nice moments too!

Oh, yeah...

That's why I LOVE both sequels; not to mention Jaq and Gus. SQUEE (Ha-ha-ha)!

Actually, Disney did a production of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical version of Cinderella back in 1996-1997 or thereabouts, so technically you can get away with using it in a Disney fic (better than I could with some songs I've used anyway).
