I think about taking classes in lighting, photoshop and drawing. When I was in high school I took an art class with a great teacher that insisted that we not spend the year doing craft projects ( i wanted to do lost wax casting, make some jewelry) but that we do everything on paper first. Drawing, it didn't thrill me at first but he was so good at and there was a lot to know. The one thing i did learn is that I am way too anal about details to finish a drawing. What I want to learn is to think broader strokes. Once, in regards to my landscaping,Β I got a referral to talk to a movie production company shooting a film in San Antonio. I visited them and was shown around by the set decorator. That guy had a pad of paper and a pencil... he's scribble real fast and then show me what he had drawn...Β each time he did that i saw a thumbnail sketch that was perfect in perspective and the detail was there without really much detail at all. That's what i need to be able to do to apply to my shoots.... take what i see in my head and make my hands do it. I want the subject in an image to not be 'IT", i want the subject to be a destination inside the image. I'm taking that thought from what i can do with a landscape design.... i know what i want, i need to visualize better to attain it....Β a lighting classs would do some good and i want to become more proficient with photoshop so that i'm not constantly having to look up stuff because i can't recall the steps from the last time i did a particular thing....Β

Your Photoshop sounds like mine. I don't use it much butΒ
each time I do I have to relearn how to do each thing.
A royal pain in the ass so I only use it when I have too.
But I know what you mean about focusing too much onΒ
creating a detailed image. To be able to make the focal
point of an image seem to be almost an after thought,
too create a whole image without cluttering the the mindΒ
with too much information. Less is more, in so many ways.
It's all in how it's put together. I would like to be able to do
that.Β
I find, in drawing or painting, and even with my jewelry, I
try to include too much detail and it looks cluttered.Β

I have my habits which i can do, it's a few functions beyond that that i don't do very often... plus i do think an image does polishing aside from skin clean ups or trimming stray hairΒ
