Description After watching the End of Evangelion movie, I had to go back and revisit a couple of my mech designs that I've kept floating around for a while. You may have seen my redesign of this one after seeing Transformers; it was a lot blockier, but taller and more powerful looking than before.

This version I tried to match the grace and power of the Evas in the series Neon Genesis Evangelion. I noticed that they are VERY rarely shown in full-screen. If you are seeing them from the perspective of people, less than 1/4 of the giant creature/machines are ever seen, because they're gargantuan in scale. They do a very good job of conveying the sheer size of the creatures. So, in that vein, I have showed only half a view of my own design. I may post the sketches of the full thing later when I feel inclined to plug in my scanner.

I also tried to emulate the 40's (?) Hugh Ferriss futurist style charcoal sketches (like the kind you'd see in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow...they tried to match his style.) The mech is actually a light blue/purple tone, nearly white, with silver accents, but the pic is clearly black and white. I was thinking of going with the style of the anime, but I'm not an anime artist. I'm just not. And I really like dramatic lighting

That's really, really cool. I've never seen any of the movies or series mentioned, but regardless the dedicated scifi drive of my brain appreciates this regardless.

Thanks Well, I advise not to watch the series or movies until you have a good handle on your sanity... and your religion.

That seems to be the case on a lot of things.

I keep looking at this and wanting to comment, but I've been so weird lately that I'm not sure how to write anything out of the ordinary. But I really think you did great with the design; I wouldn't mind seeing another one and maybe in color too

Thanks Yeah, I could color this one... I'd just add a little blue and purple here and there and it'd be done. Color does really bring out the lighting though. Thanks so much! I'm really trying to work out the design of the villain... it's in my head, but not on paper. He's a German bot/mech, by the name of Steiner Brech, which I'm not sure if that actually means anything, but it was the name in the dream, so I'm sticking with it. When I have some free time, maybe I'll whip something up...

Aw, you're welcome! You should definitely draw out your villain guy--if I knew German I would tell you if his name meant anything (or maybe you can ask the guys coming back). And color is a beautiful thing (but I like paintings in b&w too).

Buh... I just realized that that entire dream I had was inspired by G Gundam... which is a really ridiculous series.

That's the main character's main ability. it's called "Shining Finger". Yes. And when he gets a better Gundam, it becomes "Burning Finger". At least here in America.

Thanks! Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with the flat pieces like the pecs and on the face... and also all those cables on the neck.

: ) Yeah, especially in grayscale those effects can get hard. Things like the cords though, in a whole piece, become the most interesting I think : )
