Description
Part of my entry for this month's Creature of the Week over at Conceptart.org.The "fall fairy" is so named because that is its most prominent season. As the days shorten and the weather cools, the mantislike summer form will shed its shell, emerging with beautiful new wings for the fall mating season.
Also, I think I was inspired by the Luminoth from Metroid Prime 2.

I feel like they fit the true creepy nature of fairies. You know, in the old tales, they were never happy and nice to people. They were always tricksy and mysterious. At least actual insects are rather benign.

I know exactly what you mean. Those fairies of yore could be evil little devils. Strangely, that somehow makes them more lovable now.
