Description This feather was mostly for fun, partially for myself, and partially for Hallowe'en. It started because I didn't want to make much of a costume, but I did want to carry around my gryphon puppet from Midsummer Knight's Dream ([link] - I have one of the large gryphons). The gryphon is colored like a redshoulder hawk, all creams and reds, with brown hindfeet and copper talons and a brown-and-copper face, purple/green iridescent eyes, and silver talons and beak. Very very pretty.

So I thought I'd make a feather for my hair to match my gryphon. I plucked one of his wingfeathers (it was already loose and sticking out, so I finally just got around to plucking it; it'd been bothering me for ages) for the side-feather; I'm not sure what sort of feather it actually is. I used a nonstandard pigeon feather (found on campus and thoroughly disinfected/cleaned), sort of a pale peach/beige darkening to a more reddish-peach; it matches the gryphon's colors closely enough. (It's lighter and less red than the picture; changing the brightness/contrast in Photoshop so that the feather was more sharply visible messed with the colors.)

Copper wire, of course; that matches best. I used my personal colors for the beads - various shades of blue, with a bit of purple thrown to match the gryphon's eyes, and a bit of silver, with silver crimp beads to hold it all together. And, per usual, the aqua-and-copper signature bead.

I like how it turned out; very fun and pretty. It looks like something of Faerie to me; not sure why, probably the wire wrapping technique and the delicate side-feather, but that's why I titled it as I did.

That is really pretty! What kind of feather did you use and where did you get it?

The base feather is a nonstandard pigeon feather found on my university's campus (and thoroughly washed/disinfected, of course). The side feather is from a puppet; it's probably rooster coque.
