A colouring practise. The fire was annoying ><'' took me 6 times before I got it okish. Used charmander base card as reference.Related content

Emphasis on shading here, right? It appears that turned out pretty well. Your sense of lighting sticks out here, I think. Much better that most (including myself up until recently), if you ask me. Texture-wise the flame looks really good... though I would have inverted the light shades with the dark ones. I would expect the yellows to be in the inside and the cooler oranges and reds to increase as they extend from the flame's core.
I'm not going to jump on the line-art or anatomy here... I don't think that is what you were wanting input on. And I'm afraid of sounding unnecessarily negative, especially if coloring was the point.
(Just noticed... brown eyes. That, I don't see in chars often. XP)

Line-art/anatomy is literally taken from a card, no tracing btw. Looked at the card and then drew it XP.

Yeah, the lighting seems to radiate from the flame in this... it's actually pretty convincing. Flames give most people trouble. But I've found there are many different ways to accomplish acceptable results, and they still look good here.
Oh, I could see no tracing was done (I don't even comment on those... I'm trying to discourage it by not getting it attention.) However, I recognize the benefit of mimicking a reference, as I've don it before myself. Besides, at least you were honest enough to mention this in your artist's statement... most folks want to go "IT'S ALL MINE. DON'T STEAL"

The reason I'm 'copying' the body is because It's really just a colour practise. Also I added it to avoid the whole thing with don't steal. I don't like stealing ><'' At least mention it.

(And that's exactly why I didn't want to go into detail about the line art. I''m glad I got that assumption right X3 )
I think you did the right thing. It's like referencing a work when you write a paper for school... shouldn't be any different here.

ya and I didn't trace here. I looked at the card which I had next to me (was the Japanese version too X) ) So it came out pretty well. At first I made his head a bit to big though XD
