At long last, here's my entry for charcoalfeather 's contest

I drew the sketch initially whilst on holiday but have only just gotten to colouring it

The theme this time was CONFLICT and MAYAKOV'S. I chose to draw Kuzma with some of the sources of conflict throughout his life, rather than depicting actual conflict.

First is Kuzma's struggles with his writing. He often has periods where he hates what he writes and tends to shove it away or contemplates burning it all.

Then is his struggles with understanding his two brothers, Yuriy (blonde) and Mitya (red). His older brothers both managed through life seemingly with ease, Mitya being mostly like their father, Ardalion (and ultimately being his favourite son of the three) and Yuriy, who was closest to Mitya, spending more time with him and becoming closer than Kuzma could ever dream of. They both went into the army together, though Mitya's eventual death at the hands of the Basmachi started the downward spiral of the Mayakov's.

Even though Yuriy is now happily married to Lina, there's still an air of distance/struggle to properly understand his brother.
