Description [Drawn while listening to Ben Howard's album Every Kingdom - it's amazing!]

Francis' jeans were green at the hems as he and Fame wandered across the large meadow, trying to cool down after the final workout before the big day that had left them both sweating and breathing heavily. The chestnut stallion had been hosed down with cool water, and though Francis had been tempted to direct the water at himself, he hadn't, and was suffering now. Steam rose from his horse's back as he dried off under the Austrian sun.

A large tree marked the start of a small clump of trees, and Francis gratefully collapsed in the shade underneath it, sighing contentedly. Fame blew air out of his nostrils as he slowed to a standstill and dropped his head slightly to snuffle at Francis' hair for a moment. His chestnut rump still stuck out into the sunlight, but he didn't seem to mind too much as he closed his eyes and sighed.

Francis smiled at the horse and pulled out his iPod, putting on some chilled acoustic and leaning back against the tree trunk to read the book he'd brought along with him.

Over an hour later Francis woke with a start, blinking rapidly against the bright sunlight. Above him Fame was still snoozing, not seeming to have moved since he settled there, and Francis smiled, reaching up a hand to gently stroke his stallion's muzzle. Fame jerked his head up and blinked at his rider blearily, before shaking his head and snorting, pressing his nose against the hand with a sigh.

Love drawing these more relaxed scenes! Love this pair, though drawing Fame never seems to come quite naturally to me for some reason Ah well, this one didn't turn out too bad - I'm quite proud of the shadows on Fame's back, anyway.

Another 'day at the olympics' picture for our dressage hopefuls!

For those curious as to where this is pictured, on the map of Imperial Stables (harpg-olympics.deviantart.com/... ), find the yellow '5' and go right. The clump of trees is the one mentioned, with the two trees jump below the main clump the ones Francis and Fame are sheltered under, with the background fields being the large expanse of grass off to the right of those trees.

For a cookie, who knows what book Francis is reading?

James sneakily crept into that story

Oops, indeed he did That darn James, he gets everywhere

Thank-you, I'm quite happy with how he turned out in the end. Ginger ponies are (some of) the best ponies - there aren't that many solid chestnuts out there, makes me sad

hehe well I'm hoping in the not too distant future to add another chestnut to CVS so Paprika has a ginger friend

They are under rated, there are so many black HARPG ponies out there. I've avoided them so far, I found Lascivio incredibly difficult to shade and keep colour depth in the breeding pic I did of him.

Ah, I look forward to it!

I think the two ends of the spectrum are the hardest to shade - black and white are pains to do well.

tell me about it even double dilutes can be a pain, they reflect so much colour from the surroundings. I think that's why I haven't got on with Korona. My colouring skills aren't up to it yet

I don't pay any attention to the surroundings when shading - I just do basic shading then add any affects afterwards X'D

lol yes but with traditional you have to take it into account from the beginning xD otherwise the tooth of the paper fills up with their 'normal' colour and it's nigh on impossible getting any lighting/reflecting colours to look decent.
