Description Concept from a cancelled game project.

By now the pieces are almost two years old and I'm definitely noticing mistakes, but I figured I'd show them anyway. I still had fun working on them.

Thanks a lot for the detailed comment! I'm glad you liked the piece overall. As for the highlights, they occur there where something would catch the light. Just because the light is coming from the left, doesn't mean that that's where an object would catch the light...For example on the sail you can see how on the right side it bends back towards the camera, where the rope pulls it...and that's where it catches the light. And the light on the ship is partly being blocked by the island, hence why there's a shadow going across it =]

Gotta say i love the imagination. One things that's bugging me though is the lighting. I can see it all, but the picture has no true focus to my eye. Maybe making the orange lighting on the nearest boat brighter, and some small highlights to the wood at the back.
Also, I find the orange light only on the wood, and the white sails, being the most reflective, have no orange light at all. Maybe adding some small orange highlights to the sail would make you boat stand out a little more.

Apart from that, this piece is great and deserves to be in your portfolio.

Hey, thanks a bunch for the critique! The orange colour to me was supposed to indicate the difference in local colour. But maybe I could have added some warmer light to the sails as well, that is true. And I certainly see your point about the lack of a real focal point. There are quite a few things that bother me about this piece...but as I said, it's two years old and I did not want to revise it too much now, after all it shows the work we did for that game project back then =]

That's why I sometimes hate this industry lol. Those big corporations will sack some amazing projects just to make another Call of Duty clone :S.

I'm really happy that there's Kickstarter. Soo many great indie projects coming out now .
