Description When I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last week in NYC, I fell in love all over again with Egyptian art. The rows of black basalt Sekmeht statues impressed me so much, I just had to make a black version of my Sekmeht mask.

Sekmeht is the Egyptian goddess of war and chaos and sudden disasters, and I think it's so cool that the Egyptians depicted her as a female, a lioness. Says alot about Ancient Egypt's culture.

Like all my masks, this one is hand carved & hand shaped from 8oz leather. I used Liquitex acrylic paints for the black and gold. I wanted to simulate the look of a gilded basalt statue.

This mask is available in my Etsy shop right now: [link]

Sekmeht is one lady you don't want to mess with. I love the stark, bold attitude of the mask...beware of the claws!

There's something about black and gold that just works so well together. And Sekhmet is pretty awesome, so all in all, great job!
