Description I've done a series of Egyptian masks...this one is Sekmeht.

Sekmeht is the Egyptian goddess of war & is usually depicted as a golden lioness. King Tut's throne had a wonderful pair of lioness heads carved into the arms that I used as an inspiration for this piece, but it's still my own original design.

This looks like gold but is really one piece of leather...shiny!

what is realy interesting is that king tutankahman suposed son of amenhotep III brought back the gods of the old kingdom. however even then there were signs of the god amenhotep had used amen rah.

you did an excelent job imitating the cinibar and the lapis lazuli stone as well as the golden effect of the mask itself.

Thank you.

I copied a traditional design technique from ancient Egypt re; the ears. That's a sun motif, used to revere the sun god Ra. It's so stylized...I really love the rays.

That is awesome! It's seriously got an ancient egyptian feel to it, and it really pulls off that old-gold look.

Thank you. The combination of vibrant blue & gold is what makes it look so "Egyptian"...when I saw the King Tut exhibit in Toronto when I was a kid, I was amazed at all the precious gold combined with lapis lazuli. Blue on gold remains a favorite combination to this day.

Thanks!

No, that is a REALLY great paint. I use Liquitex Bright Gold acrylic paint (seen here: [link] )...it's from their line of metallic paints & I LOVE it because it is so bright & "real" looking, & yet retains its colorfastness & goes on so easily. Great for any kind of surface you might want to use acrylics on, including fabric.

Thank you! The color combination is very traditional (meant to mimic real gold & lapis lazuli inlay).

The Egyptian feel of the lion-face is spot-on, and the metallic textures of the leather are simply amazing!

okay I gotta ask how many masks do you usually make in a week?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

merimask In reply to WyldAngel [2009-03-21 08:10:36 +0000 UTC]

LOL! Good question. In a normal month I make 25 to 35...only about a quarter of those are new designs usually.

Lately though, I've been really inspired. I'm probably making close to 45 masks a month right now...
