Description Last masks of 2010 are the long-planned and much-anticipated Tribal Dragon Skulls. I must thank ...his beautiful, haunting carved skulls were a great inspiration.

Like all my masks, this is hand carved and hand shaped without molds or forms, from one piece of 8oz leather. It's been painted with colorfast Liquitex acrylics in black, brown and white & sealed with an acrylic clearcoat for durability. The tribal designs are tooled in shallow relief and then painted stark black.

This is " Tribal Dragon Skull #2". Available until it's gone (and after that, by request only), exclusively at my online shop: [link]

The bone-texture you've created is amazing!

Thank you! It's based loosely on an antelope skull. I had to fudge the nasal bones a bit...

Wow! Both masks are amazing, but each is very special in its own way. The contrast of the designs in black really make them pop, but the carved look in the other mask looks so real!

Thank you. Yes, the black designs look great from any distance. The subtlety of the carved ones get lost when viewed from far away. I think the black designs make a stronger statement but the carved ones are more artistic. That's why I had to try it both ways.

This looks awesome, nice job. I like the shape of the skull and the tribal designs on the nose and forehead. Horns look pretty good too.

I am still completely enamoured with how you manage to make the bone look so realistic. It's really gorgeous. And I never would have thought about a skull carving mask, instead of just a skull mask. Gorgeous as always. (This applies to both of your tribal dragon skulls. )

Thank you. Yes, the painting technique isn't that hard really...just some layers of drybrushing and a little antiquing stain. Very quick and effective.

Ahhh, dry-brushing. Texture's best friend.

I'm still so impressed by the way you achieve the textured look of bone, and the tribal markings are an awesome touch.

Thank you. This was my first attempt at "tribal"...now that I have the hang of it, I want to try a tribal wolf.

Have I mentioned recently that your work is really bad ass? Because it is. That is spectacularly cool! I love the bone texture, and your markings are so smooth and crisp. Wow!
