Description This is Bayviel, the demon of mankind's ruination. She appeals to the greed and lust for power in the hearts of humans. Her winged Listeners search the world for those who call out her name for an audience. The ruthless want for unlimited power, and those who drink from her chalice and shed their blood into the unholy liquid within receive such power. In return, they must offer her eternal servitude in whatever way she sees fit.
Bayviel delights in the knowledge that most mortals will try and escape their fate, as they fear the repercussion of their unsavory bond to her. But the pact binds their very soul, and there is an even worse ultimatum for the ones who try and break it. Those who attempt to escape their destiny soon find themselves face to face with her monstrous "little" brother, Zarcophiel. His duty is to drag the souls of the wicked into the fires of Hell, living or dead. These individuals are imprisoned in the pits of misery and made to suffer. From their confines, the prisoners are forced to watch as all they had accomplished in life, whether it be the conquering of continents or the building of an empire, is laid to waste by Bayviel. Heirs are slain, cities destroyed, and legacies crushed. The ruthlessly tyrannical are Bayviel's personal favorites. Beneath her flesh, their souls writhe in pain for eternity as she draws strength from their evil.
It is said that Bayviel was once a glorious angel. She was a patron of heroes, courage, and revolution. Her blazing wings would lead the righteous on their path to glory. She gave mortals the courage to stand up to oppression and rise to their full potential. She would use silver winged doves to spread messages of hope among those who's spirits had been broken. Glorious empires would rise under her nurturing, gilded with justice and freedom. Bayviel brought light to the darkest places of the world. Then, she met Armanthus.

Armanthus was a man of great ideals. He was a resident of the slums within Illiandar, a great city of the western plains. He was a man of community, who looked out for his fellow man in times of great poverty. Unhappy with the great separation of lower and upper class, he held rallies and protests, calling for greater equality and freedom of the poverty stricken working class. The taxation and ill treatment of the poor was something he heartily stood against. Bayviel saw the overwhelming of potential of this man to bring revolution to the corrupted city. She resolved to see him rise to greatness.
When a family was unable to pay their taxes, the city guard was sent to force them into bondage to pay off their debts, Armanthus stepped in. He threatened the guards, and when they sought to silence him with their blades, Bayviel stepped in. Her glorious appearance frightened them, and her fires melted their swords to worthless scrap. The men fled. It was then that she addressed Armanthus, telling him that the time for revolution was now, and that she would guide him to the freedom of his people from tyranny.

With a vigorous new sense of courage, Armanthus rallied his people to his cause. Bayviel entrusted him with the Shackle Bane, an angelic sword with the power to bring hope to those who were beaten down by oppression. She told him that with this blade, his revolution would be bloodless. Armanthus strode through the city holding the weapon aloft. Those who saw its light followed behind him, as all in the city were ready to feel the breath of freedom. Even as he ascended the castle steps, the guards stood aside, eager to see the brilliant new order that this man promised to bring. Armanthus strode up to the King's throne. Bayviel smiled, knowing that peaceful negotiation would bring about the glorious change that the kingdom so desperately needed.
There was a dark flicker in Armanthus's eyes. She recognized it. It wasn't the glow of righteousness. it was the burning of ambition. Bayviel watched in horror as the man she had placed so much faith into raise the blade of freedom and use it to sever the head of the king. Without missing a step, Armanthus placed the dead lord's crown upon his own head. He took his seat upon the throne with every intention of wielding absolute power. The golden blade of angels turned red with the blood of treachery. Bayviel was devastated. The human's betrayal fed the flames of rage within her. She threw her hands to the sky and proclaimed, "The kingdom you shall reign over will be one of only ruins and skulls!"

Fire poured from the sky, devastating the city and killing everyone within it. Only Armanthus was spared. Bayviel chained him to the throne, promising to return to punish him. She resolved to prevent any further betrayal. She would slay all those she had helped rise to glory. Every hero, every king, every man and woman she had given strength to help their kin. Among them, only Armanthus had abused his power, but it mattered not. All of them were destroyed by her wrath.
When she returned, her beautiful angelic form had begun to warp. As she approached the throne upon which Armanthus was chained, her golden wings began to smolder. A hole opened up beneath her as her wings were incinerated into ashen stumps. She fell, but not without first grabbing Armanthus in her claws. Together they descended into the maw of the underworld. She landed in the pits, reborn as a great demon. She was greeted by her brother, Zarcophiel, who had already been banished due to his cruelty to mortals.
In a fit of rage she ripped the soul from Armanthus's body and absorbed it. She melted down the sword Shackle bane with hellfire and transformed it into a thorn lined chalice. The blood of the mortal who had betrayed her was used to fill the cup. She swore that from that day forth, she would use the ambitions of mortals against them. Her silver winged doves were transformed into the hideous Listeners, now used to seek out avarice instead of spread hope.
The heavens wept at the loss of Bayviel. In hell, Zarcophiel and the other hideous demons reveled in the destructive power of their new counterpart. Where once she had brought about the rise of glory, she now caused downfall and devastation.

Thanks! It's so that she may never be tempted to drink from her own chalice.
