The dark sky is courtesy of a circular polarizer, the most useful filter you can buy for your SLR. If you don't have one and can afford the $80 or so it would cost for one, definitely purchase one next time.

It not only darkens blue sky to give it a deeper look, but a circular polarizer will give you more contrast in colors, will reduce glares, remove reflections especially in water, and work as a neutral-density filter by allowing you to stop down the exposure from 1-2 stops.
