Beautiful work! I love how wonderfully you've captured the emotion in this piece, and also how you've paid attention to all the little details in it. There's definitely a story being told here, and even though I'm not sure what exactly it is, I like it.

To those who wonder about the sword: He might be holding it passively, not like he's going to use it. Besides, the opposing curve looks better with the picture than if he was holding it forwards. I think it's lovely and entrancing. :>

He seems exhausted but like he feels that he must finish what he started. Or like he caught an old friend on palace grounds that should not have been there and the punishment for it is death, and this young man is torn over it.
Did you have a definite story or scene in mind when you painted this? If not, I could probably find a way to write a scene about this... Wait... here comes something:
"You shouldn't have come," said Rigel, his pale hair falling into his equally-pale face. He did not want to kill Naman; Naman was his best friend. But rules are rules and if he did not carry out the punishment, he would hear from the Emperor.
Naman shrugged. "It doesn't matter; I've seen the princess now." A nervous little smile crept into his chapped lips. He took a breath in and looked up at Rigel
Rigel's eyes began to water. "You know that it is forbidden," he murmured angrily, tightening his grip on the sword. "You wanted to die?"
Chuckling half-heartedly, Naman shook his head and reached forward with one hand as though he were going to say something. He hesitated. "I have no answer for that. Death is death, and I see it as a reward for glimpsing her; surely it must be better than the life I had..." Naman frowned and bit his lip.
The stars in Rigel's palms began to glow as he twirled the sword his hands. He pressed his lips together and mustered his resolve as best he could in this situation. It was either Naman, or himself.
"Please," said Naman, balling his hands into fists at his sides. "Just kill me already..."
Rigel forced out a sigh. "So be it." He laid the flat of the blade against his friend's throat, then poised himself for the blow. A tear slid down his cheek. "I will miss you, my friend..."
How was that?
Wonderful work here to have inspired me. I like that.
