Thank you for the very flattering compliment!
It's just a generic-sort of square brush with the opacity controlled by pressure sensitivity, and the angle controlled by stroke direction!

Where do you find these blocky brushes?

I make them myself!
In photoshop, open a square document and paint a block within it (for subtle touches like softer edges/rounded corners or opacity variance or grunge), and then Edit > Define Brush Preset. Select it as the active brush and then edit its brush settings (F5) to your preference!
For this piece the brush used Shape Dynamics > Angle Jitter [Control: Direction] and Other Dynamics > Opacity Jitter [Control: Pen Pressure].
Also add the brush to your library when you right click by right clicking on the canvas with the brush, and hitting the 'new' icon in the top right. That will save you having to change those settings every time because you can just use the new preset!

It's amazing how you can create with so big and little strokes such pieces with minimal color.

Sometimes if you force limitations on yourself, like working on only one layer or using an awkward brush, you can learn some pretty useful tricks and techniques!
