Description After doing the earlier Vrock, I saw this great National Geographic video of a baboon snatching a flamingo out of a flock for a quick meal. That video inspired this pic of Demogorgon grabbing a light lunch.

It seems like the Abyss is like the African savannah ... on PCP, meth, and bath salts. Great job on this pic. It shows the eternal despair and meaningless underlying all of hell's violence and scheming. Kind of like the US government.

This is a really great interpretation of the Big D! I think it's the closest to how I imagined it since I first read the Monster Manual in the 80s. The creature is obviously a chaotic amalgam but sort of hangs together as a whole - and looks strong, not too wiry/tentacly. The maniacal heads hint at Demogorgon's insanity and internal conflict. Hard to feel sorry for a Vrock, though...

I like this a lot! It really shows what the Abyss and the demons are supposed to be, animalistic, evil, desolate and withouth hope.
Excellent mood!

Can you draw a picture of his Ettin Cambion son that is in one of my things I am working on so I can get a description?

Thank you!

I'm not sure I know about Demogorgon's son, but it sounds like an interesting idea. It's part Ettin and part cambion?
A lumbering two headed cambion sounds kinda cool. Where did you read about him, or is this something you invented? I have
most of the D&D books about demons and devils.

Is this something you are looking to commission? Respond here or drop me a PM and we'll talk.

Thanks for the interest in my work.

This is from WG7. I am sure that he was half-human, but Ettin makes more sense, don't you think?

An Ettin would make a lot more sense, yes!

Although demons don't even have to eat I must say...WOW. lol have you ever done Graz'zt? he's my personal fave! ^_^ im sketching a pic right now of an epic battle between Graz'zt and Demogorgon and i guess i was just flippinf through some pics of him and found this lol. nice work!

MichaelJaecks In reply to xHarlequinAngelx [2009-06-24 11:57:04 +0000 UTC]

No, I suppose they don't really have to, but I'll bet they do on occassion for fun. Mostly what inspired this was the video I mentioned in the comments. Whenever I look at this one, I always think Demogorgon looks like the proverbial old man who shouts to the kids in the neighborhood, "You kids get offa my lawn!"

I have not done Graz'zt, though I keep the idea in the back of my mind all the time. I'd like to tackle Fraz Urb'luu at some point and also Lolth. The demon lord Socothbenoth recently came to my attention and I think it would be interesting to include him in an illustration at some point.

Thanks very much for the comments!

Lol yes that is true! ^_^ Plus its a great way to get rid of minions that have displeased you haha.

I will certainly keep on the look out when you actually do Graz'zt. There are some amazing pictures out there of him but I know you do work for...Paizo? Right? And you're artwork is pretty awesome. I'd really love to see you do a take on him.

I have actually not heard of Socothbenoth...*looking up in Fiendish Coxed* Oh yes..."The Persuader". I've never seen a picture of him so I do not know.

I actually think I've seen your artwork in my books. I am a 15 year old gamer and I play a mix of the 3.5 and 4.0 version of D&D. We have recently taken to Pathfinder which is I think is owned by Paizo? Have you put any artwork in any of the Pathfinder Chronicles adventures?

I've only recently started getting my work in publications from the big companies. I've got work in the new "Dungeon Denizens Revisited" from Paizo and I will have more coming out this fall in one of their new Pathfinder rulebooks.

Also, they've used a couple of my images on covers for two of the newer Pathfinder Society modules. Paizo's been fun to work for and I hope I get to do more for them in the future.

Well that's good! My dad is looking forward to the new rulebook because we only have the Beta Playtest one.

Specifically which modules?

MichaelJaecks In reply to xHarlequinAngelx [2009-07-02 18:48:39 +0000 UTC]

actually i guess i can say that it's the forthcoming beastiary, because they previewed one of my monsters on the paizo blog for june 29th... i have a bunch of monsters showing up when that comes out...

i can't remember the names of the pathfinder modules, but theres a skeleton wrapped in a vine on the front of one and a giant crocodile on the other. they're recent releases.

xHarlequinAngelx In reply to MichaelJaecks [2009-07-03 02:39:09 +0000 UTC]

My dad's purchasing the Beastiary when it comes out. I can't wait to see what you put into it!

Yeah I don't know about the modules...we're running an adventure path right now so I think it might be awhile before we get any more new ones. I think it's really fun that I am talking to an artist that provides for our gaming producers. ^_^

Awesome! I can't wait to see it either. A lot of the artists included in the book are friends of mine and I love the fact that we are all hanging together in the same monster book.

Wow. That is really cool. ^_^ I can hardly imagine being in your shoes for that...locally, I guess I'm known as an artist but I could never hope to be good enough to make pictures for books or material that sells internationally. Even nationally. It's just really amazing.

That's very nice of you to say, but you're still young right? I don't mean to play the dumb 'age card' or anything, but it takes time for everyone to develop their work. You'll get there someday if you keep working at it.

xHarlequinAngelx In reply to MichaelJaecks [2009-07-19 20:53:17 +0000 UTC]

Lol no you are right. ^_^ It just gets to me sometimes. People say a lot of things about my work and tell me how good I am but then I look out into the world and at artwork and every time they tell me I am good, I have to retort back that I'm not that great. But again you are absolutely correct. It does take a long long time to develop work.

Yeah, if he can catch them. Vrocks are one of the lowlier D&D demons, so I figured they would make good food.
