I'm not a bird person.

I am absolutely, undeniably birdsgay. You want to see me fangirl?? Bring out a bird. It's rather pathetic, but---- JESUS CHRIST I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

They are such awesome creatures. The decedents of dinosaurs!

You know, I drew dinosaurs when I was three. They were the first things I ever drew. And then, when I got birds, I guess.... The love was just natural. First bird I ever had was a grey cockatiel. The ones I've got today are a lutino and a lutino/pearl cross. They're very pretty.

Fucking LOVE my birds, man.

ooooooo those are pretty! Yeah, I wanted to be a paleontologist for the longest time because of my obsession with dinosaurs as a child (still obsessed really). I love watching birds move and interact with each other no matter what the species because of that connection.

Do you stop and stare at them when you see them?! Ohoho, I know I do. Especially when they're in little flocks at the food court and they start bickering over french fries.... Teeheee.... But I digress. I really wanted to be an ornithologist for a while, you know, until I found out that you don't actually get to work with birds.

Haha yeah... I do... they all have such unique personalities

I had a similar realization with paleontology (except it was more about not wanting to dig for a living )

I could dig for a living, if I didn't have to do so in 100+ degree weather. Although, I'd probably be good for it.... the heat, anyway. I fucking .love. the heat, man.

You ever had any birds other than 'tiels??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MichellePrebich In reply to Dieter-Dieter [2010-10-05 06:33:02 +0000 UTC]

Nope, Tiels are all I know bird wise. We currently have three and had one (unfortunately she passed). Sid (the common cockatiel) was hand raised by humans and is "bird-retarded" so he gets his own cage. Luna (nickname Squeaky) and Lucius are pieds that we caught. They were abandoned and flying around our house because we have a bird feeder. We also have hawks, lots and lots of hawks so we are quite happy to have caught them before they were some one's lunch. Lucius (the yellow one with the crest up) actually tried joining a pigeon flock when he was loose. He's quiet neurotic/paranoid but very smart. Luna pushes him around. She is VERY sociable and loves talking competitions. They roost together. So yeah...

Ah. I've got two tiels, a budgerigar, and an Indian ringneck. The ringneck was hand-raised with two cockatiels, so, unfortunately, he thinks he's a tiel. Both of my cockatiels are kind of mean to him (the three live in the same cage), but especially Buddy, the 11-year-old Queen Bitch(she was parent-raised, and bought from a pet store... two very bad decisions). The little budgie is a runt English-type that no one thought would live for more than a couple of months, but... Jesus Christ, she's four years old now (she was hatched when I was a freshman in high school). She's quite the vicious little shit. I mean it; she attacks people.

So, yeah. I've got other birds.

WOW! That's awesome! Do you have to have special diets for each bird?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dieter-Dieter In reply to MichellePrebich [2010-10-05 07:16:34 +0000 UTC]

No. Well, actually, yeah, kinda. The ringneck needs more nuts and things in his diet, and the budgie only eats these little tiny seeds. But the basic structure of their diets is the same: nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, Cheeri-O's, millet spray.... and a potato chip, now and then.
