Oooohhhhh I like this compilations!
This little awesome critters are standing at the beginning of the evolution of their homeworld: after some troublesome millions of years their anchestors survived some cataclysms and turned into this beautiful beings. Just like life on earth did in the cambrian era, this beings developed only in a few million years - like in an explosion of life! BTW the cambrian era is my favorite in paleontogy!
But lets come to the actors:
a: Four-finned doubletail - looks like a swimming "U" and I cannot really say how it is able to swim (maybe by rotating its whole body); most of time it lives on the ground, searching for some tasty particles (comparable to a trilobit)
b: Lance tower - a lurking hunter, waiting for its prey to come around, just as big as a finger, but though terrible
c: Walking salad - I think the strangest creature here, cause its not obvious if it is a plant or an animal (maybe both), it can move with its little legs slowly over the ground and filtrates water with its "mouthes" on long necks
d: Wheel of misfortune - I dont know why, but this thing has some kind of hypnotic characteristics, it floats quiet and deadly through the ocean and "lands" on bigger prey, almost like a octopus, but without tentacles
e: Bigjaw: looks like a hunter, but its just a scavanger, which can open nearly every hard shell with its huge jaw, the "tentacles" at the side and end of the creature are its organs for smelling, so it can easily find a fresh snack
f: Cutter worm: its just like that, what its name says - it cuts with its jaw into bigger animals (no matter what it is), grabs a mouth full of meat and then it vanishes with some quick tail movements
g: Green lounge: well thats not completely true, cause this thing hides in its "crown" photosynthetic bacteria, which work like the bacteria in corals, the crown can hide itself against herbivores in the bud at the bottom
h: Hunting hook - bad name, it lives like an angler fish and . . . there is nothing special about it . . . comparable to the Lance tower (b.)
i: Ocean arrow - well, that thing is definately my favorite in this pic and one of my best critters I ever drew, I love the bony-looking body of that thing and the whole look reminds me of a beautiful starship under water - the ocean arrow is a huge, two metres long predator and the biggest animal so far on its homeworld
j: pelican mouth - this could be the anchestor of a new group of future animals on this planet, the back reminds really much of a fish, only the jaw looks extraordinary; this jaw works like the big throut of a whale, swallowing everything in its near
Phew! Long time no writing english
