Description Decided to polish up my Babydoll a bit, perhaps with a view to releasing it. Here is a tidied up version of the OBJ file in Blender, main improvements are to get rid of any ngons (five sided shapes) and clean up the mesh, particularly the borders, one downside of using Marvelous Designer is the hash it generates along seams when exported as an OBJ file. It is better to export without "Weld" selected and link the pattern together yourself, in Blender in this case.

Next step is to map where I want the seams, which are not necessarily where the sections of the pattern are joined. If I allow Blender to unwrap the model itself the seams could be randomly placed, which disrupt any patterned materials applied later. Then I need to clean up the mapping co-ordinates, commonly referred to as the UV mapping, this also affect any patterns applied, particularly the scale, it is easy to end up with - say - polka dots that are larger over the curving busts than those on the flatter skirt.

At the moment the different colours are just to distinguish the pattern segments, I set them to random values in Marvelous Designer and they have migrated to Blender. It gives a number of useful advantages: each colour can be used to define texture groups to deal with separately both in UV editing and later in DAZ3D for weight mapping (programming how different parts of the garment respond to model movement and gravity). It also serves to pick out the preferred locations for seam lines and most of all makes it easy to assign different textures, for instance a satin to the straps and lace to the body.

BTW, the outfit can be created from scratch in Blender, there are plenty of tutorials out there, I use Marvelous Designer because it is easier, but I have an old pre-subscription version, the price model on the later versions have taken it out of the hobby market, sadly.
