EDIT: This piece is entered in the World of Fantasy Contest , hosted by Yay!I finally finished!! It took me about 15 hours over a 2 month time frame, but it is done.
The mermaid is "Death's Mistress" and it goes with the poem posted here [link] There are tons of mistakes, but I am still a bit proud of it since it is the first full color piece I have finished. I used little for reference; a couple magazine pics for facial features (that later got messed up once coloring started anyways) and some general tentacle pictures to get a feel for them.

wow, this looks very good. the hair in particular looks quite nice and the fingernails creep me out! To dive down underwater and see this would truly be a spine chilling sight...
meisarn's suggestion of giving it a more "underwater" effect is a good one and bubbles also might've helped to show underwatery-ness, but hey, it looks great anyway. Nice movement, great piece, good job!!!

Rissa, this is fantastic! I love your concept, and the coloring job on it. I'd hate to think how long that took with colored pencils. You did a fabulous job on those tentacles, by the way. I see what you mean now about them being a pain. I think I'll try and look at them as little rolls of sushi when I begin to draw mine.
