Not only are they two different mediums the pictures are different because you show so much more of the mermaid than the other artist. Whether you used her picture as inspiration or not doesn't matter because they are different. In my opinion I like yours better.

[link] The concept of your drawing looks a lot like a wannabe copy of this famous fantasy artist's painting. Her name is Selina Fenech. If you referenced her painting you should give her some credit. 8 /

I am gobsmacked at the blunt nerve and ignorance of your comment.
Ms. Fenech herself lists many artists and movements as influences. These include her contemporaries Amy Brown and Jessica Galbreth. Using your misguided logic, Ms. Fenech could be accused of being a wannabe Brown [link] or wannabe Galbreth [link] as these are just two of their works that share elements with Fenech's Moon Maiden.
All of these works, and Midorii88 's, incorporate classical feminine poses that you can find throughtout art and photography. Many of the elements, such as the moon, are cross-cultural symbols. The simple yet ornate line styles obviously draw on the art nouveau movement.
All art is influenced by everything the artist sees and experiences. Artists also cover the same themes and draw from collective symbology. For instance, Da Vinci was far from the first (or the last) person to render a version of The Last Supper. [link] ) . There is enough true ripping of art going on. Please refrain from unwarranted attacks on what are unique creative works simply because you recognize some elements.

I don't know where or what you're looking at, but *midorii88 's deviation bears no resemblance to Selina's painting called Moon Mermaid. The only time you'd have the right to say that it looked like a "wanna be copy" is if she drew the mermaid in the exact same pose, same hair, same face, same colors, basically what the word "copy" implies. However, there is no reason why anyone can not draw a mermaid, much less one sitting in a pose like that, as long as other elements don't look "exactly" the same. And none of them do. Selina's piece doesn't have huge waves looming behind her, no does it have the Art Nouveau style bordering around it. You really could have been a bit more discreet with your accusations, or at least ask the artist first before you jump to conclusions.

I did not reference her picture, I took pictures of my friend I made this for as reference. This was the pose she wanted and was the main factor in my design. I am familiar with Selina's work, perhaps somewhere in the back of my head her piece somehow influenced mine, but I absolutely did not reference her piece for my own. I am glad you are being a watchdog for other artist, but I would caution you to refrain from using such terms as "wannabe" and word your 'questions' carefully to prevent sounding accusatory before you know the facts. 8/
Thanks.

Thanks!! I rember I had to force her to do that with her back for the reference photo, since most of us don't do it naturally. It just looks more graceful that way, I think.
