realistically seen he CAN'T have much memories on the "whole civilisation" so while he surely will miss his immediate family all he has got from them are positive moments and remembrance pieces that were consciously sent with him to help him grow up... it may be a bittersweet thing to remember the parents he can't directly remember from his own days as small child, but shared with the woman he loves? That's a strong picture still... Come on, i introduce you to mum and dad... inΒ a way. ^_^
Would you really be cross with Bruce Wayne for showing a girl he's serious about the alleyway his parents were taken from him in? After all neither hero can change a iota at the outcome of the tragedy, sharing it with another beloved person would be a very ... human thing to do. Emotional sure, but very normal and understandable.
And of course the style is helping with keeping it upbeat and lighthearted... looks a bit like typical children's books' covers, doesn't it? Nonetheless awesome

You know, if you think about it, there actually even more depressing connotations there β assuming Kal-El was flown to earth with some kind of warp speed, rather than keeping him in suspended animation for a thousand years, the light from Krypton would still be traveling across space for hundreds of years after it blew up, so even though Krypton is gone, it can probably be seen with a telescope. Now how depressing would THAT be to see?
But anyhow, on a lighter and more relevant note, I really love this picture. The style is really cool β consistent and well-designed, and really looks professional. And I just love the pose and position β sitting on top of the Planet's planet statue, I mean, how perfect and superhero-ish a place can you find? Of *course* they'd sit on top of the Planet building β it just suits them.
And wow, just WOW at all the little details you put in. I mean, the details alone are really well-drawn, but it's the *thought* that went into the details that really makes them come together and make the whole piece shine: the flapping cape (and hair, and curl), the lighting, Superman's feet braced against the surface to stop from sliding down, the hand on Lois's back, Lois's shoes and notepad (does she go anywhere without her notepad? ) with the pen tucked in where it won't roll off the roof lying neatly nearby here she can reach them whenever they're done, the distracted expressions on their faces that really make them look like they're in the middle of doing exactly what the description says they're doing, and the visible weight/mass highlighting the difference in their sizes. And the surroundings are just beautiful: Metropolis skyscrapers below and stars and moon above. The lights from all the windows is just...wow, really well-done. I think, out of all the amazing things in this picture, I especially love how you drew the misty glow from all the streetlights and windows down in the city β it's absolutely gorgeous, and gives the picture a very real, city-ish atmosphere while still making it feel like it's just a little bit above it all. Excellent job.

"Just about... there."
"So... that's where Krypton is?"
"Was. It's so far away, though, that the light of the nova that destroyed the system won't be visible here on Earth for another couple of centuries."
"Weird. Doesn't it... I dunno... hurt to talk about this?"
*sigh* "Lois, I don't remember Krypton. I left when I wasn't even one Earth year old. All I have is some tapes of my mother and father and some factual details about the planet and its history. It is all kinda academic to me. Earth is very much my home; Certainly the only one of which I've any memories."
"Yeah, I guess I understand that. Do... Do you wish you'd had a chance to spend time there?"
"Lois, I'm pretty happy where I am."
"Good. I'm happy with you right where you are too! Uh... On Earth, I mean."
