Description This one i have to say was inspired by one of my DA favs by Mark Karvon. The question it answers is could i try to do that too? I love Aviation Art and have dabbled in it before but not in a long while.

I started off doing some photoshop sketches of plane designs. I wanted to design my own version of what I thought a stealth fighter could be. after these initial sketches I began an extensive reference search and analysis of current real world designs. from that i took what i liked and blended it into what you see pictured.

not quite satisfied with my sketches i began a form discovery exercise in 3dsmax. i spent a day working up a block in model of my design. from there, a day or so later, i took the idea of that and began sketching in photoshop again. not directly working over the 3d model but remembering its form in my head the previous days and freewheeling it out as a new line drawing

it actually took several line drawings to get to something i could paint up and that i liked. more than id like to admit. lots of refining here.

the drawing took a day and a half. from there i went into painting the broad shapes and deciding on a pallet. it really started to feel good when i got into airbrushing and really opaque painting.

you may see in the foreground some graphics on the display panel in the front cockpit. those are a direct rip from the f-35 lighting 2 joint strike fighter. i just couldn't help it, they fit in perfectly for what i wanted.

i hope you enjoy it and im very happy to share it with you.

we all borrow, that's a fine tradition in art Β for instance the x02 is borrowing from nasa's x29 and the yf22 pretyy heavily. those are actual planes. also the soviets borrowed the forward swept wing from the x29 in real life for their recent next gen fighter. and we all borrowed alot of these ideas from nazi xplanes of ww2 like the horten flying wing. so i say borrow away, its an honored tradition in fiction and real life

thanks

Thanks! Hmm yes his style suits me alot, i'm not veryΒ experiencedΒ still because i didn't really bother start teaching myself until now. The dropship was just practice drawing of the original one. i haven't really put up any designs other than a bike and a spaceship (the ship was rushed).Β

thanks! i think i'm already set when it comes to detail and lines, but it'sΒ coloringΒ i really want to learn. so i can try and bring more photo realism into it.Β

thank you. i took some current designs and bashed together to make a new one. i took inspiration from model kit box art of the near past. golden hour time of day paint ups. i like the idea of wings facing forward. it just seems interesting to me. nice paintings you have btw. that shot of the afb and the a=10s are amazing. nice work! i love fighter planes. ever since i was much younger. they seem like such a synthesis of function and form that creates this powerful aesthetic as almost a byproduct. the forward sweep concept is really something that amazes me still. thanks again!

You're very welcome. I've always thought that aerospace companies should try wings similar to these or go a step further and make them warping/morphing wings. They seem like they'd make interesting aircraft.
