Description Acrylics on 11 ¾” X 11 ¼” wood board.

The two bicycles came from two different photos taken two years apart by two different friends’ friends during their trips to Asia. The foreground bicycle first caught my attention, because I saw there a good son carrying his aging mother on his broken bicycle (broken chain being dragged on the ground) They were apparently incense sellers, on the way to temple, to sell their goods to worshippers needing few more incense, fruit or flowers. As I was sketching the image, the second bicycle which I have seen in another photo two years earlier, suddenly came to mind, yearning to be included in my painting
There is a saying in Asian culture and if I were to translate it literally, it would be “the young rely on their father, the old on their children” The word "Father", because he is supposed to be the breadwinner; but figuratively, meaning parents. I hope this helps you understand my painting Background is totally made up...
Hope you like it. As usual, constructive critique please and thank you for looking!

I wonder why I didn´t register it when I watched you gallery. This is a masterpiece ! Especially I like the meaning of the title and the realisation of the different generations. And the shades on the bag with the apples is great !And the forceful colors ! All in all - a definitively fav !

I was looking at your gallery and I over-looked this lovely piece some how. I felt I had to comment, because the perspective of the bicycles is so good and I can imagine that bicycles are not the easiest of objects to paint.. all those spocks in the wheels and the feet in random positions where the pedals are...it is lovely and accurate considering this. I also love the colours in the footpath and grass, makes these elements more interesting to look at. And lastly, I love the expressions of the people in the painting, they are very realistic. Bravo!!!

You made me smile, because you are often quite thorough in your comments, which requires some time and thoughts on your part. I love painting people, and I'm happy when I can achieve their facial expressions. Thank you for coming back to my gallery and leaving me a nice comment

my pleasure. I am impressed by this painting. I read that you made up the background - woah you have a really realistic imagination. I would never have guess you made this up, it is so detailed.

Your paintings are always full of some warm emotion. I love what you pick as subjects. It is really heartfelt. Also I like the way you show different generations who are not divided and how traditions are present in everyday life. I think it is very nice for composition to add the second bike, especially since it yearned to be there , and i like the background.

Wow, again you have shown great figurative skill . The richness of colours & depth to the painting make it extremely realistic, and if you close your eyes it looks exactly as a photo . Really good perspective to this one, it's much harder than it looks to paint a scene like this. Well done

You made me with your compliment. But I’m quite happy the positive comment comes from you, a great figure painter yourself. I admire you for achieving great likeness, I forgot if I have asked you… for the secret tip Hey, is that a tried and true way of looking at a painting, I mean…to close the eyes to see the image of the painting afterwards I’ll try it after this. But thanks a whole lot. You always seem to look at a painting long enough to give out an in depth critique which I very much appreciate. Thank you from the bottom of my And what’s keeping you, have not seen any paintings from you for a loooong time. There are so many stock artists here with photos for reference, so no lack of materials there I’m doing now a small acrylics painting, acrylics again. Thanks so much for inspiring me to like this clean and pretty medium. Can never get enough of it

I do try to close my eyes and look at something from a distance as UI find that helps me identify areas that are incorrect quicker. I often find that if I look at somethign too closely for too long I get 'blind' to some of my mistakes & I find the distance gives me a new perspective.
I'm really glad to hear your enjoying painting at the moment , that is certainly the most important thing to get out of the hobby.
And hey, no need to thank me

p.s I shall get back to painting, it's just my style takes too long, I'm gonna have to speed myself up

You are so right about stepping back to look at our work and the perspective from a distance. I have many times done so and seen many things that did not look right I used to be like you, spending too long time on a painting because I thought that would make it more perfect, but now I try to be...less perfect so it is not so stressful for me Nice talking with you

littledesignshop In reply to milbisous [2006-04-03 19:25:24 +0000 UTC]

I am definetly going to try that approach from now on, be less perfectionist & just enjoy painting more. They are wise words indeed
Nice talking to you too & looking forward to your next piece

Too late, I need oiling up before I start again as I'm rusty already!. The trouble is I'm really busy with other work at the moment. I'm going to have to set aside some time and really get back to the painting

milbisous In reply to littledesignshop [2006-04-04 19:13:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes life has other priorities as well. What I do is when inspiration strikes, I sit down and sketch and wait for more time to do the painting. Sketching is the first step Anyway, I'm sure you will brush off the rust easily once you get more time

Aww, you really take time to "scrutinize" my gallery and comment I really don't remember how long it had taken me to paint this. I just remember I was very inspired painting the theme and it seemed to have gone by smoothly and easily. It is just a very small painting. Hey, do you see there a ...plastic bag of fruit
