These are both males? I didn't think two of them could get along. I will admit I almost laughed out loud when I saw those cute little pink toes

they are in the same age, only a day difference between them

what is more they were brought up in the same place, so they have much in common

Ah, my mice were similar to them then, if you kept the males together from birth they would squabble but they wouldn't fight to the death like if you took two brothers and introduced them back after they were seperated.

Rats and mice are VERY differnt. Male rats can, and usually do co-exist peacefully through their whole lives. I have 2 large cages of adult boys, and no fights

Yes. Thats good, but rat adoption agencys refuse to let you adopt two males Someday When I am on my own I will adopt two females.

What rat rescues are you talking about??????

I'm a rat breeder, do rescue, and work with many rescue groups and I've *never* heard of a rescue that won't adopt boys together! That's stupid, as rats *need* to be kept in pairs... and that's same sex pairs, unless the opposite sex is altered!

I've owned, and bred rats over 10 years, and have never heard of a knowledgeable group who will place lone rats, esp those who claim boys can't or shouldn't live together.

A lot of them around here. And many are not knowledgable about rats at all. The won't let you adopt males and females together unless they are altered yes, and will onlly allow you to adopt a pair of females together. The only males they will adopt out in groups are the "inseperable pairs" and that doesn't happen very often because I doubt anyone cares enough to watch them interact. Its sad but a lot of the rescue groups around here are stupid.
What kind of rats do you breed? I've pretty much accepted that if I want a nice pair of rats I'll need to get them from a breeder instead of adopting around here because of that stupidity, and it really pisses me off because the rats at a rescue need homes much more than any breeder rat, as the responsible breeder will always keep a rat that doesn't sell. It's awful. I would be surprised if the rescues here sold thier rats to people using them as snake food. Granted not all rat rescues are that bad but the ones in New york all seem more political, than trying to help the animals.

You're in New York? Contact Kims Ark! That's an awesome, knowledgeable rescue group, run and founded by a new veterinarian. I have a lot of respect for Kims Ark, and the work they do, and YES they will adopt out boys

I will do that, ok favorited them for future My father will not let me have any more rodents or animals so when I'm out on my own I'll go there and take a look. If I look now I might try to smuggle a couple home

When I got my first rats in middle school, I wasn't allowed to own them so they lived with a neighbor, and came home with me in a backpack on occasion! I was a HORRIBLE child! heehee If I was caught, I'd just take them back to the neighbors home! *giggle*

Memories, memories. Now my family doesn't like to visit, because rats still creep them out, and we have a "rat room"

I bought three mice from a awful petstore here and smuggled them in a purse into thier cage, turned out there was two females and a male . Kept them for a while with all thier children before my father found out, when he got over being pissed he bragged about my critters. My animal room is my room. I sleep at night knowing I have five fish tanks up and running, with various goldfishpeople have given me, tropicals, wild minnows and a baby bluegill sunfish I caught myself and salamanders I raised from eggs I found, 2 giant african millipedes (that father still believes I found outside ) 3 leopard geckos one being gravid with eggs just told him about her being pregnant and he wasn't really all that upset *shrug*, one chilean rose haired tarantula, frogs that I raised from tadpoles, a dove, a Russian tortoise, an American toad, and 8 hermit crabs are all in here with me. Occasionally I share my bed and pillows with my three cats. The frogs and salamanders are going to go back out in the wild for I raise them up and release them back where I found them, I've been doing that for a couple years now. I figure I might as well do my part with helping the poor things survive. I've had animals since I was little, grasshoppers and crickets in jars with little tiny weeds that I grew in order to replicate thier enviroment, toads my brothers found while mowing the lawn and all sorts of little critters. I found a baby mouse once and kept him for quite a while. I've always wanted rats but I want a baby, not some unsocialized adult from a petstore hence why one hasn't been smuggled in here yet My room got an overhaul in the past couple of months, my fiancee made a stand that when finished will prolly go almost all the way around my room. Then I can have all my critters moved into larger containers, especially my torty, Natasha. She's the most spoiled tortoise I have ever seen
My family likes bringing over thier children to visit with my zoo My little cousin is my mini me 8 years old and extremly intellegent about critters Her major plus? She doesn't freak out about anything, nor does she pull on my leopard geckos tails. She knows how to handle and care for anything I have just as well as I do. Granted she isn't allowed to do it unsupervised or anything. Your family doesn't know what they're missing
