Since the airing of Wonky Whistle almost ten years ago, there have been far worst episodes of Thomas and Friends, like Three Steam Engines Gruff, Thomas and the Monkey Palace, Apology Impossible and even Thomas Makes a Mistake. Not only that, but I even think that Middle Engine, a Classic Series episode, is far worst than this one.

And Neil Ben, the episode's writer, even said that the story went through many changes during production. So who knows how the idea originally went.
