Sure, but thats the older Playstation version. You need to check this out instead. [link]

It's an up-to-date version that improves on it drastically. It's just mind blowing... @_@

Descent is totally awesome game btw... [;

y'know rather than emulating, you can find the Descent: Maximum mission that you can run on the PC/MAC version of Descent 2 (and D2X too)

I know. I have it.
I'm a huge Descent fan.

What's you're favorite weapon?

Looks like D2 for the PSX, really. I kinda wish I had it, though. I wouldn't be expecting the graphics to be too hot, but still... Descent for the PSX...

Particularly nasty boss, too. I never hung around long enough to take his picture. I usually spent my time firing everything I had at him and trying to dodge his shots untill he teleported.

Yeah, its annoying how it teleports.

That allways made things so much more difficult, and by the time I would have beaten it, I didn't have jack squat on secondaries.

Same here, but I also ran out of energy.
Guide Bot had also "left" the mine earlier.

or shooting flares...

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-07 02:29:04 +0000 UTC]

Don't I know it...

I've had to do it on more than one occasion. even the most basic enemy takes a half our of constant flaring!

Well, if anything, it keeps him from hitting you as long as you don't miss. Most likely, he'll be as annoyed as you would be after about ten minutes, too, because those little explosions have just enough power to start twisting you to the left...

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-07 18:51:16 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, but by that point you're practically screwed.

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-16 04:52:18 +0000 UTC]

All but...

Either you'll get an energy packet or a shield boost.

God forbid you run out of energy at that. one flare every two minutes...
Youd be better off hoping your ship has enough mass to screw up the bots face, or then you're screwed, depending on what you are facing.

Imagine trying to kill the big brown hulk thing that fires concussion missles.
Err, Medium Hulk, rather.

Damn thing'd never die.

And lets not get into the bunghole in the Vertigo add on... The one with the eyeball, fires homing flash missles.

Under normal circumstances, I'd lob a few Earthshakers and hide, watch a missle go by and hope the wall it smacks into is far enough away.

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-16 05:24:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! The friggin' things just won't back down! It's really annoying! To kill them I just shoot down the missiles with the Vulcan Cannon and open up on then with Flash missiles and (if I have them) Smart Mines, so when they get shot the energy particles go towards him, thus destroying it. Yay!

Damn, I haven't played the Vertigo add on yet.

I got this thing, Descent: The Definitive collection, or something like that, agoes ago, before D3 came out.

It had D1, D2, the Vertigo Missions, DMB2, and a package of levels that were sent in to some contest.

Some of those levels were pretty kickass, and some of them... urf...

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-16 05:41:49 +0000 UTC]

Aww! DMB2? Drat, the Descent level editor that I use sucks. It's just that the DMB2 downloads online are the demo versions and I don't know where to actually buy it. (cause Parallax signed for bankruptcy protection)

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-16 06:00:01 +0000 UTC]

I don't think it's buyable at all, unless you can score a copy of what I got from Ebay.

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-16 06:04:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...I'll have to find it there.
Anyway, I've been wanting to ask you:
What difficulty do you normally play on?
What is your Primary weapon of choice?
What is you Secondary weapon of choice?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-16 06:14:38 +0000 UTC]

If you ever want to know something, feel free to ask.

As for difficulty, when I'm not cheating, probobly the easiest. When I do use cheats, I usually go for the hardest I'm allowed to cheat at. I think it's Ace.

Primary weapon of choice? Good question... Depends on the situation. Probobly the Gauss cannon overall, but it can depend on the situation. I looove that fusion cannon!

Secondary weapon of choice... As with the primary weapons, it all depends on what's happening. Somewhere between Mercury missles, homing missles, and Earthshakers.

How about you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-16 06:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, thanks. I will!

Well, as for me:
When I'm not cheating, Ace. (I like to play rough) And when I'm cheating, Insane.
Primary: Helix Cannon all the way!
Secondary: Mercury missiles. (gotta love that speed!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-16 06:34:08 +0000 UTC]

Damn you... It won't let me cheat on Insane, and I'll get my poor self blown up after about ten minutes on Ace...

I happen to like most of the weapons. I can tell you what weapons I almost never use, though. For some reason, I can remember that easily.

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-16 06:57:20 +0000 UTC]

I'll just go down the line. Easier for me that way.
1: Vulcan cannon. The Gauss cannon may have a slower rate of fire, but it's just that much more powerful. The Vulcan is weak, only good a pushing enemies away and making them face in a different direction.

2: Spread cannon. Not too bad, but the Helix cannon is better. Especially when you use the rapid-fire cheat, and the bouncing shots cheat. fill the room with death!

3: Plasma cannon. It just kinda fell by the wayside.

4: Phoenix cannon. If it weren't for the fact that a rebounding shot could hurt you, I'd use it more. I don't allways hit the target with both thingies. Firing rate is high enough too to leave you in a nasty situation

5: Omega cannon. The name sounds cool, and the weapon looks cool, but for something so godly powerful, the range and charge are both horifically pathetic. It takes too long to kill anything with it anyway. I'd rather use flares.

Secondary weapons:

1: Concussion missle. Umm... Those get sidestepped a lot, only to plow harmlessly into a wall.

2: Flash missles. Same as the concussion missles, but sometimes, they can help, but on rare occasions.

3:Guided missles. They have their use too, just it's almost never. One or two places, and that's it, and I exaust the supply when those situations come up anyway.

4: Smart Missles. Weeeak. I can cause more problems with other weapons.

5: Mega Missles. I only use them when I run out of earthshakers.

6: basic (Red) mines. It just sits there. Kinda handy when dealing with the theifbot, but only if you know he's coming up behind you. Even then, it only deters him half the time.

7: Smart Mines: Same as above, really. the energy things it releases are nice, but they don't do enough damage for me.

Other:

1: Guide Bot arming cheat. He'll kill himself. Much more amusing when used with the Spawn Guidebot cheat. By the Dozens. And be prepared to type it in a lot if you want to keep the numbers up.
Stay the hell away if there are enemies around. the Guidebot Horde only sees you when they look for you. So if you happen to be between your standard level one class driller and your guidebot throng...

*mushroom cloud*

2: Flares. Good for opening doors, and lighting the way in a pinch. Aside from that, the only other use is for the guide bot, and only just to piss you off.

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-16 07:46:34 +0000 UTC]

Heheh, Cool! I'll do the same:

Primary:
1) laser (lev.4). Good, I only like it for the sound though,

2) Super Laser (lev.6). Great power, but not fast enough for me.

3) Spread Cannon. Meh. good damage, good range. Not bad.

4) Plasma Cannon. I like to use it for its accuracy/energy consumption rate.

5) Fusion Cannon. Awesome! Especially when I upgrade it to triple barreled.

6) Helix Cannon. My personal fav. Deadly at close range. Good for taking out lottsa robots at a robot generator or at the Reactor. But the energy consumption rate is kinda high.

7) Vulcan Cannon. I personally preferrer this one over the Gauss. I need the speed!

8) Gauss Cannon. Good for long range attacks or taking out those really annoying small, highly mobile robots.

9) Phoenix Cannon. I never use this weapon mainly because of is insanely high energy consumption rate.

10) Omega Cannon. It's name doesn't serve up to it's name. Too high of a energy consumption rate for it's low damage power.

Now for the Secondary:
1) Concussion Missiles. I use these a lot. It's commonly found, so I don't have to save them up for when I really need them.

2) Flash Missiles. Good for blinding those tougher robots so I can blow them away. (especially for those who shoot homing missiles)

3) Homing Missiles. Meh. I don't use these very often, mainly because I really don't it's homing capabilities.

4) Smart Missiles. Good for damaging robots when you need to clear a room. (especially when you're low on shields)

5) Mercury Missiles. I need that speed! (I'm a "speed demon") But these are harder to find so I tend to kind of save these for when I really need them

6) Guided Missiles. Meh. Power isn't that bad. These are really fun to use. Also good for activating those far away switches.

7) Mega Missiles. Powerful and homing. I don't use these too often though.

8) Earthshakers. I'm too scared to use these. Too strong. Plus they it can kill you if you're not too careful. Last resort only!

Miscellaneous:

Mines. I rarely use these. Rarely.

Smart Mines. Those homing plasma particles come in handy. (example: try laying some near a bunch of robots and shoot it. *POW!*)
Flares. Good for pissing of certain robots. But Guide-Bot can kill you with these.
----
That just about does it for my Descent weapon review!

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-17 18:42:58 +0000 UTC]

When in doubt, "wildfire" makes everything faster...

Lasers become laser beams

Helix cannon dumps rings of shots

Fusion cannon increases reverse speed by 25%

Phoenix cannon fills the room with death

Earthshaker missles render movement pointless (Use in short volleys, after the first few explosions, you'll most likely be facing a wall.)

Ya just gotta know how to use things! Earthshakers are pretty safe when fired fared enough away. I've NEVER had a spawned missle shead straight back at me.

MiniMoose64 In reply to RageTH [2007-07-18 03:25:36 +0000 UTC]

Try the Helix (with "wildfire" activated) and use "duddaboo". Helix becomes a weapon of pure death.
Yes, it's just that I'm not to good of a shot with the strong missiles.

RageTH In reply to MiniMoose64 [2007-07-19 01:23:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes, very much fun...

You don't need to be that great a shot with WMDs. If the guy is close to a wall, aim for said wall!

With Earthshakers, aim at a wall period. Some of the spawn will go for that enemy.
