I had a black cat that passed away a few years ago that was black, and named Sake(sock-ee). Yes, he was named after an alchoholic beverage.

...You have got to be kidding me.
You named your cat Shadow after the antihero counterpart of Sonic the Hedgehog. That is the exactly what I would've done for my own cat, Tom. I swear to God that is the truth. (Yes, from "Tom and Jerry". Not very original but I was a kid when I first caught him. 
He was truly one of a kind, Tom. I loved him a lot and I can honestly say that he is the only cat I know to ever show a quality so unique for his kind: Loyalty to me and my family. We lost him once at the apartment complex we used to live, but he hid himself in a spot under the stairs where he knew we would find him, he never hid from us when he was sick and always got me up first thing in the morning for school (Or because he was hungry. Hard to tell.) He knew we would always take care of him...to the very end. Perhaps I should post a picture of him here so others can know how special he was...Jesus, it's been five years and I still miss him.

I named him, Shadow cause I got him the day "Shadow the hedgehog" game came out.
I had a Cat before Shadow and his name was Marshmallow, he was white all over. We too shared a special bond. He would always wake me up to feed him. But then one day I let him out side (for the first time) and he didn't come back later that evening.
I got really worried. I stayed up till like 12:00 looking for him, but I never did. The following day me and my Mom posted posters saying "Lost cat....bla bla bla...", I missed school that day too. I was devastated. A week passed and no sign of him. I was heart broken. About three months later my sister's friend found his collar, it was all messed-up and dirty.(and thats all I have left of him) Its been about 3 years since then. I never did find out what happened to him.
