Description If you like what you see, commission me.

Another in the Jpony series. Just over 2 hours.

And here was have Apple Jack dressed as a shugendo, er, it doesn't really translate but we'll call her a warrior monk, complete with woven rice hat (kasa) and shakujo (staff). People who know us from waaaaaaaaaay back might recognize the costume...

Honestly there isn't much to say about AJ specifically or the piece in general because this was an experiment of a very different kind. With any luck, you can find the speedpaint for this once youtube recognizes the fact that I just uploaded this. I think I spend about as much time trying to make the video as I did painting the piece. We recently discovered that, via the grace of having a gmail account, we also have a youtube account. Who knew, right?! And so, if I actually have one, I figured I could use it and, in my perfect world where I become really popular and people commission me left and right, I can make some money off of the speedpaints. We'll see.

Most of my morning was spent in iMovie banging my head to figure out how to use it since it's FREAKIN' SCARY for someone who's never done video editing before. The GUI was quite intimidating. Still...

What I like: The overall colors. It's a little monochromatic, but it makes the greens and whites really pop. I almost wish I had done AJ's eyes bigger to give the pop on her face (more on that in a minute). The bamboo forest came out okay, I should have done more variation with the leave, but for a simple background it came together rather well. I like the two in the foreground that frame AJ. Her shakujo is - to me at least - hilarious.

What I don't like: my one big mistake in terms of composition is that AJ's eyes don't stand out enough, which means the eyes don't quite make the trip up there as they're staring at the rest of her. The background, while okay, needs more variation to feel organic.

As always, let me know what you think!

lol I see what you did there with the clothes. XD

If you want AJ's eyes standing out you could try darkening the shadows around them, by like two shades. Or you could darken her eyelashes.

Hm..... I'm not sure that would do it, but it's a very good idea. I'll keep that in mind for the next piece...

Thanks for the comment!
