Two hours.

The first in a series. We've been watching the MLP:FiM series being released in Japan, and enjoying ourselves muchly. So Mirror suggested doing the Mane 6 in kimono, and that was all I needed to be told. And so we start with Pinkie Pie, dressed for obon a shinto festival, usually held in high summer at temple, complete with odango sweets and mask won at a carnival-like stand. Note the mask is smiling and sticking it's tongue out.

I also (though I never do this) dedicate this to Theory Brony who is going through a really tough time right now. He needs all the smiles he can get.

What I like: the lighting. I hesitantly say I'm getting good at it, and color is starting to bleed into that understanding as well. There are two colors in the shading, orange and blue.

What I don't like: the anime smile TOTALLY DOES NOT WORK now that I'm looking at it zoomed out. Sigh, it was a good idea at the time. And... did I forget to shade the cast shadow of her odango? Baka, baka Image!

As always, let me know what you think.

I really like the somewhat metallic glow here. And the contrast between the background colours and Pinkie Pie is simply fantastic.
Though, what confuses me a little, is that Pinkie Pie looks so blurred while the background seems more detailed and focused. It reminds me of a camera shot where you focus on something in the backgorund and thus the stuff that's nearer is rather blurred. I don't know if that was you intend, that's why I'm confused.

Really? *goes back to look* Huh, you're right.... I think the weird blurring is because of the brushes I used. The background was done in stylized brushes while Pinkie was done with a soft round brush exclusively - that often gives off a blurred vibe, and it wouldn't be the first time I, uh, forgot to use other brushes to make the edges more distinct...

Thanks for the comment!

You're welcome.
I have the same problem, too.^^ I just really like going soft and glowie when I colour something digitally, but you have to be careful to not overdo it.
