©2009 Sarah B. Seiter - Do not use without permission - Colored Pencil/Watercolors - Original 10" X 20"Bettas have been affectionately nicknamed "The Jewel of the Orient" because of the wide range of colors which can be produced through selective breeding.
This is my interpretation of a betta fish (Chinese or Siamese Fighting Fish). They have always been one of my favorites breeds of fish with all their beautiful colors and flowing tails. When it was finished (after killing my hand), I thought it looks very much like some of the elaborate Mardi Gras costumes I have seen.
Maybe I'll do a male to match her sometime. I'll just have to remember to keep them separate lol

I usually watch (or listen to lol) movies which I draw/paint, so this one was about four full-length movies long over four days, which is probably around 8-10 hours all together

This is a beautiful piece of art.. though female beta fish are usually muted brown and gray colors and their fins are much shorter and less spectacular. Like with many creatures, the males are much more flashy to attract the attention of enemies away from the female and her eggs. Sorry for the biology lesson lol just thought it was a fun fact
