Description This is a stand of Sequoia trees called the Parker Group located in Sequoia National
Park; and yes they really are that big. You can only see about a third of their height
in this picture as they are all between 70 - 80 meters tall (that's 230 - 260 feet for
you Americans), and probably at least 2,000 years old. My mom is standing in front
of them.

I heard they used to be much bigger, but the first generation trees--think that's the term--have all been 'weeded' out.

I think you're refering to redwood trees of which 90% "old growth" trees were
chopped down to be used for lumber. The trees in this photo are sequoias and are around 1500 years old (according to the park ranger who was near-by). Sequoia wood
supposedly isn't good for building so most of them were spared.

The sequoias are truly magnificent. I got my picture taken with the General Sherman a couple of years ago. Can't wait to go back here.
