There's something about your work that reminds me of Clive Barker's art.

I'm so intrigued, I hadn't heard of that adaptation. O:
Slaughterhouse-Five was incredible. I read through it in one day ... completely hypnotized. Well... it wasn't incredible. I don't know what it was. But there must have been some reason for me reading so eagerly. I read Cat's Cradle too, the first half in a week in complete confusion. I revisited it months later. It was difficult because his dystopian/scientific ideas are so far outside of my thought spectrum, but I recall enjoying it in the end for that very reason. I can't say I know what I'm talking about when I describe his work -------------- as you know, that's part of the reason I enjoy things so much.
I've read excerpts out of a lot of his work. Absolutely incredible, especially out of context.
I can't wait to hear what you think (if anything at all! I know I showed a few people and they were far from as fascinated as myself).....
I'm going to take up reading again, I think. I feel like there is some sort of art to reading ...
I only fear indulging in so many direct ideas zatttt I break an abstract capacity, thus forgetting all of which I'd thought upon. I read a book in leisure maybe every 1-2 years, they have a similar effect on me as video games and other media, you know?

I read Kurt Vonnegut's speech.
There's one word which immediately comes to mind: fatalist. Vonnegut is not merely a pessimist, as he so often calls himself, but also presents the listeners with incredible certainty about the future - which is impossible. I understand that his personal experiences and his time in the armed forces must have taken quite a toll on his psyche; he's obviously not looking forward to the future. It seems so terribly dark to him.
Not like he's willing to feel happy, either. Too much guilt in there, I sense.
Beckett has that too. But in a different, personal way.
What I don't like about Vonnegut is that, to agree with his editor, he makes things much worse than what they are. Obviously affected by some sort of depressive disorder, he is unable to see something beautiful around him - or even far. Thus, he has that inability (to a certain extent) to experience love. His advice seems more like a projection of his depression on others, as if he wishes them not to be as sad as he is but fails to believe in his wish.
I don't agree with the flaws he sees in society. They are true, but superficial. For example: "Being less selfish? What is selfish? Is it possible not to be selfish? How?" and so forth, all these questions go unanswered. And that's about it. Apparently he doesn't want to become a sort of "mentor", he doesn't want to guide, to dictate the younger generations. There's the guilt: he feels bad for the world he delivers them, and sees his only tiny speckle of hope in them. Guiding them would mean perpetuating his mistakes.
Deeply scarred, I'd say.
