Yes! I thought, man this bird is too dark, it's not going to come out right, and it did! You always have a level of surprise when you're working on something,and I was definitely surprised with how well it came out considering the darkness!

Yeah it does look like clay, huh? This is a neutral black that I use sometimes. It tends to have that earthier color to it versus a mixed black of carbon black and some white (the other black I use) which ends up more crisp and almost blue-black. Thanks again

Aww one day, just keep trying..I find it a lot easier to shade with paint than with pencil. And I still do a way better job with black and whites than I do with color.

Thank you! Hrm..now I have to think. Typically I don't have long sit downs where I can paint so it's usually 3 hour chunks over the course of days. I think this took me about 2 weeks working those 3 hours each day give or take. I'm sure there were some days I wasn't able to get to the canvas..So I'd say somewhere between 25-35 hours.

Np! I am a stay at home mom, so I really don't have as much time to paint as I used to. It frustrates me that when I had all the time in the world, I was never disciplined. Now I have no choice but to be or else I will never get anything done. Working with acrylics it's near impossible to get any serious work with a toddler in your face the whole time haha. Thanks again though!

I suppose you're familiar with the wet palette technique (to keep your mixes from drying between sessions).

The paint drying on the palette isn't the problem..but the paint drying on the canvas is. xD

Thank you so much!! It's sometimes hard to see how your work stands out or is different, although my hub is constantly telling me - sometimes I don't see it! So I do appreciate hearing that! The major thing I can always tell is that I have a tendency to be VERY bold when I work with color. ;D I checked out your gallery and LOVE the style on the Alissa White painting -although I will confess, I don't know the band

I have also been known to like european industrialish music - not the all out metal clanking - but more alternative/industrial - if you know Oomph - I love them. All depends on the mood. I even listen to Jpop sometimes. Only music I can't stand is country..and I don't really like rap either. I liked DMX but that's about it xD Thanks for the watchback!!

That is exactly the way to be! Finding unique artists who clearly love what they are doing is one of the best things about this site.
I do know Oomph! haha. It seems like we have a pretty similar taste in music.. (can't stand country or rap) and I do occasionally listen to JRock (as opposed to JPop). xP and no problem! I honestly thought I had earlier when I commented, so thanks for reminding me, lol!

Jrock? this sounds intriguing! Can you suggest some good songs? I need to do a Dero painting at some point because man I used to have SUCH crush on him (lead singer of Oomph). I did a painting of him back when I was pretty bad haha. It would be fun to compare the 2! And back to what you said at the beginning about finding artists and such - I completely agree. It's sometimes hard to find the ones you can really connect with, but when you do it's fricken awesome. I have not only made great friends on here, but also mentors that I can ask advice and that is super important for any blossoming artist to have!

I guess it's more on the metal side of what I listen to.. lol. My boyfriend shows me most of the songs since he's always looking for new music. Maximum the Hormone and Nightmare are two jrock/metal bands. They are easy to find and pretty popular since they did the opening theme songs for Deathnote.
A Dero painting would be great! He is pretty handsome.
And yes, definitely. I love the groups here, too. You find the right ones and you can get some excellent feedback and advice!

Haha, I guess she does a little bit in the painting with all the shadows. Knowing how Tippi normally looks though (or did at that age) I'd have to say I can't imagine it aside from the hair xD
