Description I had Jaz doing motion poses for stock, and we were both amused by the way all the tassels in the harem dancer costume whipped about. So she took a break while I set up the big light-bank and we captured some slow-motion video.

If I had the musical skills I'd do some slow drum accompaniment, perhaps with a bodhran. But, lacking the skills, silence must suffice.

mmm She is dressed like a tribal belly dancer... but she's not doing any dance..

She's dressed in a fantasy costume not related to any ethnic group or tribe. So as far as I am concerned she could be standing on her head and it would still make sense.

This made my heart hurt.

On another note, really, a Casio EX-F1? How do you like it?

I have a Casio too, but a much dinkier one... an EX-Z77 It's all my student budget could handle!

The EX-F1 is pretty good. Mine got broken, unfortunately, recently - I dropped it on a rock. Poof. I'm going to get one of the less expensive models.

Argh, rocks!! When I do shell out serious money for electronics, I try to make sure they can survive my butterfingers... but it's tough to protect cameras much. Sorry to hear.

I'm tough on equipment but that's mostly because I'm always handling it. It becomes a numbers game - if there's a 1 in 10,000 chance you'll drop a camera every time you pick one up, that means I drop mine a couple times a year.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NatassjaKing In reply to mjranum [2010-08-04 07:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Haha fair enough. Mine goes everywhere with me in my purse, so it gets jostled around and used quite a bit, although the places I go are usually pretty mundane. But every now and then I'll bring my camera to Central America or on a camping trip to New York state, and the chances of me destroying it multiply drastically.

Funny, though... I've never destroyed a camera. I've had one stolen and one broken by someone else. I nearly broke my little Casio when I dropped it in May, but I was able to fix it at home with a little metal file. It's lasted nearly 3 years!

Phones on the other hand... those, I go through like mad.

I found it mesmerizing. It is amazing how the fluidity of movement transcends language. I used to be a ballet dancer and what made me fall in love with it was the way that the most talented dancers could tell a story without any words just the raw emotion of their bodies. While your model here may have just been twirling for twirling's sake, I saw in her expression a suggestion of something sadder, like a slave commanded to perform her only freedom in the dance itself.

Maybe I'm a romanticist and this was just a fun recording of a twirly girl with tassels, but I adore it.

It's cool that you read so much into it. One neat side-effect of the slow-motion is that expressions become either very natural or very contrived. I think we're used to sudden changes in expression and seeing them slowed down comes across to us as sad.

I'm also a romantic. But - shhhh - don't tell.

Well, of course. And with me in it it, just for instance, would have been a pile of fabric surrounding a woman who can't dance and it wouldn't have deserved that title.

FUCK! Really? Now I'm just pissed. I'd pho-king love to let you buy me Vietnamese food! Then I'll take you to an Irish pub and buy you a draught beer of your choice. If you bring and she lets me take her photo, I'll buy you both a HUGE bottle of wine and help you drink it.

Hell, maybe I can bring audio recording gear and some dance videos and check out your skillz? I don't travel with Sarah anymore; so we'll have to keep the bottle mere mortal-sized.
