Extra fine sculpts with Zbrush (normals maps).
Scene done and rendering with Maya - Mental Ray.

Not into the death thing at all, but this is fantastic art. The details in the bodies, tree & grass is superb.
And there is something about this piece that stronglyΒ draws me in. Nice !

I don't think they're trying to kill her (her partner is a different story!) She looks as though she has been bound with more freedom of movement to dodge an incoming arrow than her partner was. If the order has been given to not shoot her, an accidental stray shot that lands on her would bringjeering and ridicule on the archer. The shots that have landed on the tree are pretty close to the midline of the tree trunk, so these archers are fairly skilled.
An alternative possibility is that this use of the captives is as a training exercise in skill with the bow for the young warriors and warriors-to-be of the band. Maybe she has been promised as reward to the most outstanding student who places his shots exactly where commanded. The young archer must control his aim even if he is trembling because he is eager with excitement thinking about the prize.

I love it!Maybe these two were robbers and were caught stealing- it wasn't their first time so they had to put him down. The poor Girl on the other hand, will be given a second chance, and taught a lesson she'll never forget!

Absolutely amazing, as all your works are. If I could make my photos look anywhere near as good as your renders, I'd be a lot happier with where my photography is at.
One thing I did notice, though, is that the depth of field seems a little bit off at the top of the image. The tree trunk is in focus, as are the foreground leaves, while the tree in the background on his side is reasonably crisp and certainly looks about right for a photo. With that though, there's some leaves that look like they belong to the main tree's far side that look just a touch softer than the background tree- like they're further away.
I'm only looking at this on my phone, so I could be seeing motion blur showing up as 'lens' blur, but it made me curious. (the arrows thudding into his body, him twitching/jerking at the impact?
Some of the shadows look a little bit funny direction-wise too, but I think that's just me mentally putting the light in the wrong place.
Speaking of light, the specular highlights here are incredible. The glisten of sweat looks just right, and the definition that you've put into the muscles with it is just... Wow. I certainly can't do better myself on a computer, and I'd be struggling to do it with a camera. I don't think I've seen it done better.
I can feel the tension, the pull and bite of the rope, the strain on his shoulders.

This is one of the most erotic renders I have ever seen. The peacful surrounding is more conducive to a Sunday picnic than to the torture of these two very sexy people. That's what makes it so sensuous.
Their skin appears real. The shadows cast by the arrows on the man's calves and arm lends to the realism. Could it be a mother and her son; a father and his daughter; a husband and wife? The thought of two beautiful people, bound and naked being tortured is quite a turn on. My only regret is that their captives didn't take them to their camp and spend days making them suffer the most exquiste forms of sexual abuse.
It is nothing short of magnificent. Truly a work of art!
