Description
S O H E I L (so-he-al)
270 years | 15 years physically | 5' 2"
Hair: Light Ash Brown
Eyes: Hazel
Faction: Disciples - He isn’t fervently aligned and prefers to keep a relatively neutral stance, but to him, Sybal Hiem was the second chance he asked for before arriving to the city. Though the true purpose of the city gives him some doubt, he is thankful of this life and the opportunities to continue his aspirations.
Originally Soheil was reluctant to stay in Sybal Hiem, but after seeing this as a second calling his passions returned swiftly. He still has a deep desire to return and see his parents again, but most of these feelings become drowned out by his passions.
Occupation: Courier – A job he first started as, and hasn’t bothered to change, partly due to monetary reasons but also some freedom and action. For one, this does give him some free time to do some side reading and he gets to learn writing styles and take on studies in his idle time. It also lets him move around frequently, something he feels he should do if he sits around reading books a lot.
s y b a l Caelestia Vagus “Celestial Wanderer”:
Soheil’s Sybal truly takes on the night sky as its mantle. The Caelestia Vagus stands 4 feet high at the shoulder and from the head to the end of the tail, it measures nearly 10 feet. The head is obscured by an ivory mask that with angular edges, and flanked by two ears and is slit at the top, where a white disc of light rests. The mask has a very soft gray toning, flecked with blue and has narrow eyes that glow from behind. The neck appears to be a wrapped bundle of white cloths with two long stands of yellow light streaming from the mask. The main body of Caelestia Vagus is a deep blue, swirling with different shades and hues and glitters with stars and ends in three dark limbs. The chest is wrapped in two mantles: one clings to the body and clipped in place by two claw-shaped holders, and inbetween is a golden talisman. The rest of the body from the back to the tail is a series of layered fabrics, laden with the stars and move with the night sky. The tail splits off into three parts, two resembling “fins” and flow freely, the tail continues on to where it turns a right blue-green.
Normally in the moonlight, the end half of the Tail appears half ethereal in moonlight, brightens when using the Ark, appears normal (in picture) when not shone by moon light or under other light sources.
While normally it doesn’t show it, the Caelestia Vagus has a mouth hidden under the mask, with the mask acting as the top of the snout and flip open, revealing a sinister maw that threatens to bite.
This form is very flexible, true to it's appearance as cloth it soemtimes doesn't even seem like the body has a spine, as the Sybal can bundle up tightly or coil.
Celestial Ark : Celestial Ark does what its name implies. It allows the Caelestia Vagus to carry passengers along as it travels the night sky. The Caelestia Vagus does this by creating a path of stars as it rides it across the sky, flying through the air resembling a comet, granting levitation as it forges a path that others can follow to the final destination. This path is only one way, so passengers on the Celestial Ark cannot travel in the opposite direction the Caelestia Vagus is headed as they are essentially swept up in the star stream. While as many passengers can ride the path, it only lasts 30 seconds after the Caelestia Vagus has moved forward and it will begin to fade after that so they will have to ride the Ark relatively closely.
The top flight speed of the Ark is around 35 mph, so its not the fastest mode of transportation but grants anyone and anything levitation. Continuous flight at max velocity though is tiring, so the usual flight speeds cruises between 25-30 mph. The Ark can lift heavier objects and beings, but they will move along the path even more slowly and risk being dropped when the stars fade away, and if it exceeds 200 lbs. in weight it simply isn't picked up. Additionally, objects and beings can be knocked out of the stream by outside forces if it’s enough to topple. The star trail itself can also be interrupted if an obstruction appears or something forcefully cuts through the path. This causes the separated section of the Ark to simply shower down in a rain of light, but the path connected to the Caelestia Vagus will still continue.
Beings can leave the path if they wish, though they must force themselves out as if flailing out of a water current.
As the Celestial Ark is a literal stream of stars, it illuminates everything around it and shines brightly in the sky wherever it goes. This makes it easily noticeable from below and on rooftops. It also makes it difficult to use it purely to escape and hide, as the path would simply lead to the destination.
Docile or Feral: Circumstantial Feral: While usually retaining a timid demeanor, Soheil becomes easily captivated by the night sky and will spend the entire night simply staring at the stars if left alone. He also becomes uninhibited by shyness when his curiosity is piqued, often coming across as nosy or invasive as he follows and observes. Quite simply, the Soheil is very easily distracted while under moonlight because he wants to observe all things.
p e r s o n a l i t y Coy – Sincere – Inquisitive – Amiable – Timid – Oberserver – Diligent
Personality: Soheil is rather quiet and reserved in manner, preferring to keep to himself and not to meddle in other people’s business. He can come across as a loner or secluded, but really, he’s just very timid and shy, finding it hard to speak out against other people and is largely agreeable with others. This doesn’t mean he is anti-social, however, as he really does enjoy a conversation with someone if he can grasp the opportunity to, but sometimes just can’t. Being a student under a rigorous teacher before, he’s come to allow himself to just take in what he can, remember it, and to never disobey instruction.
He is a rather sweet boy, rather generous in returning gifts when he can and sincere is his actions. He is somewhat soft-spoken and respectful of others. Soheil also values honesty, and when asked directly he will give an answer and is contemptuous of liars.
Though he is no longer a student, Soheil still finds solace when he is studying something of any sort, but has a keen interest in calligraphy, astrology and is curious about alchemy, all things of which he was deeply interested in before coming to Sybal Heim, and wonders of not just his origins’, but Sybal Heim’s versions of these subjects. As of such, he does tend to be a bit of a book worm and absorbed in notes and books that he manages to obtain.
With that, Soheil often finds people who lack motivation or are lazy deplorable, believing everyone should be able to find a time or spark to do something, whether it be for someone else or their own desires. That being said, he sometimes ends up beating himself up when he realizes he’s been distracted by something too long.
Soheil’s curiosity is sometimes blocked by his timidity though. He fears failure in tasks and often tries too hard to ensure he hasn’t forgotten anything or makes sure he’s understood everything and tends to punish himself mentally when he messes up or something didn’t come out right. Socially, he finds he’s rather intimidated by authority figure or those who display a great amount of wisdom (he sees them as very knowledgeable and then sees himself as just a student). Very loud personalities sometimes get the better of him too.
That being said, Soheil is also a bit of a coward in the face of combat, something he isn’t too proud of as his instructors from his former life didn’t take to kindly to his reluctance.
h i s t o r y
Soheil was born during the Achaemenid Empire, raised in a shepherd’s family in the Babylonian region. It was a rough childhood for him, learning from a young age the ways of horseback riding and archery and also how to act, truthfulness and self-restraint.
From a young age, Soheil has always been captivated by the night sky, seeing how the stars slowly climbed the sky and faded in from day’s end to deep night. He never asked questions about it, somewhat afraid of the reaction to having a keen interest in such a thing, but with nothing like books or pamphlets, all he could do was stare up at the sky and watch to learn. His father would have much rather have a son to join the army, but the family was fortuitous enough to have a scribal school in the region, and scribes were well valued. but he was delighted when he was told he would be attending a scribal school to learn writing and further subjects. Soheil gladly took this opportunity, preferring to indulge himself in ways of writing than take up sword and be sent off to the army.
For several years, Soheil studied diligently in the scribal school, spending much of his time practicing writing or consulting tablets on other subjects. At other times when he was home he’d scratch out the position of stars as he observed them through the night. His taste for learning grew so much that he would eventually come to ask his instructors for materials, extended lessons, or even to use and study some of the tools from the school.
Despite how prestigious of a student he was, Soheil would come to be confident in his work and perhaps a little too forwards. During his time in the school, he would frequently ask for the use of tools or tablets to take and study at home or to use to read the night sky. However, as time went on he began to simply borrow them judiciously, without notice. It became such a routine practice that he left the school taking some of the materials, and one of his fellow scribes caught it. Immediately, he was accused of theft, disrespect to his fellow scholars. Despite his pleas, his punishment for theft was decided. Soheil’s arm would be taken, and the decision to continue his studies lay on his instructor’s choice, but regardless if he could, this act put shame in his heart.
He was contemptuous of the lack of responsibility he believed himself to have; perhaps if he bothered to notify of when using the resources, this wouldn’t have happened. Though his mother comforted him through his recovery, Soheil feared what he would face from his father after the news have been told. To him, he felt as though he failed. Unable to bear the thought, Soheil quietly left his home and out into the fields for some time to himself.
As he stood out in the empty plain, Soheil gazed up at the sky, seeing the stars once more and thought about his time in the school. All he had wanted was to find out the secrets that those sparkling lights had, and now he felt he’d lost that chance. There was probably no other way back into the school now, and the thought of his father came back into his mind. Desperate to empty his mind of his father, Soheil trekked further and further out, until he found himself at the edge of the plains and facing a forest. For a moment he thought he should turn around but a glimmer of light deep within caught his eye and he stepped forwards. Looking carefully, he could make out what seemed like a city bathed in light and could not resist temptation to discover what it was. Closer and closer he wandered, until he came to the edge of a walled city at the end of the forest, and saw the silhouette of a figure approach from the distance.
e x t r a Additional Info:
* Soheil was originally left-handed, and that was the arm that was taken. He can manage to write with his right hand but still fumbles on other dexterous tasks.
* At first, Soheil was actually reluctant to use his right hand for writing as the events before coming to Sybal Hiem still haunted him greatly. It wasn’t until many years later he finally refueled his desire to learn calligraphy and astrology that he began to practice with his hand.
* In his free time, Soheil still rehearses his old lessons and repeatedly draws out star maps based on Sybal Heim’s sky and the former world’s.
* Originally housed in Ambrotos, Soheil moved over to the Heiros District after learning of the Observatory housed there.
