Varuna- God of Cosmic Order(Rta),Justice,Water and god of the ocean called life.He was one of the most revered gods in the vedic culture and was the mightiest Asura!
Born to Kashyapa and Aditi, he is also the elder brother of Indra and Vishnu.
In the Rig-Veda he is addressed as Samraj-the lord of all!
Varuna was worshiped also in Iran as Ahura Mazda which is from the sanskrit word Asura Mahat-almighty Asura.
Its evident that Ahura Mazda is indeed Varuna as the 44th name of Ahura Mazda is Varun.

Whoa dude, I had no idea that Varuna was Indra & Vishnu's older brother! Also what surprises me is that he's a God even though he's an Asura, but Varuna does sound like a good being, despite being an Asura because I know that not all Asura's are evil, like Vibhishana for example

the problem is that asura didn't mean evil at all..
asura means extremely powerful.
vibhishsan isn't an asura he's a rakshasa .. they're different beingns altogether.

Asura I think followed a different path than the deva. I usually associate them in the Western concept of a "titan" or "old god." Though the deva and Asura oppose one another quite often, there are times when the gods required their help. In fact, I think the Buddhist figure Vairocana is an Asura that achieved enlightenment and became symbolic of wisdom.
There are so many different evil spirits in Hinduism (Pishasha, Vetala, Rakshasa, etc) that I think lumping them under the "demon" umbrella doesn't feel right.

Exactly! The Asura's weren't really "demons" in the Western sense. They were just a different race of beings from the Devas. Rāksasas would be more like demonic beings.
