Description I always start a painting thinking "Okay, THIS is going to be big and awesome and way better than my last painting." And then it never is.

I figured that since Amanda is a teacher, she might give little Spock math lessons instead of bedtime stories. One of those toys with colorful wooden beads strung on curvy wires would make a good tool for explaining how to find the derivative of a function. (I hope that's the correct terminology. Math is not my strong point, people. ) And then, of course, since we're talking about stuff approaching a limit of zero, I couldn't help punning on Spock's attachment to his mother.

This so cute and so Vulcan! I bet this is one of the times when Sarek is reminded of why he married Amanda. And I can think of a thousand reasons that Math would make someone fall asleep.

Thank you! I have a soft spot for Amanda, and I imagine that Sarek does too. And yes. Math and I do not get along. At all.

Oh, this is wonderful. I'm totally fond of the shadows you gave them and their hands. A wonderful skill you have to color like that in your own, special way.

This is not only incredibly sweet, it is also such a creative idea! Not to repeat what others have said, I'll say that the part I like the most is that, despite his age, Spock seems to pay attention to the lesson as it was very interesting
Thank you for sharing!

Oh, by the way, I saw my "Dressing-Down" on you Tumblr. I'm deeply flattered. I love your Tumblr, and I watch it even though I'm not on Tumblr myself. I hope that doesn't sound creepy.

You are so welcome! One of my favorite things to do on Tumblr is feature all the awesome fanart I come across, and yours definitely deserved it - I still come back and look at that one all the time. (And no, it's not creepy at all...I lurked around Tumblr for months before I ever joined)

sorry with the pestering of so many questions. what canvass seize do you start out with, what program do you use, any specific brushes, and do you mess around with opacity?

even answering one would be fabulous!

Hey, no problem. You caught me on a free-ish day.

I use Photoshop. My habit is to start out with an A3-sized canvas, at 300 dpi, but I almost always change the canvas size while I'm working, and the composition develops. I use a regular old hard round brush. The opacity is set to 100 percent, but in truth it varies based on my tablet pen pressure. I change the size of my brush on the fly - a small point for sketching, a really big size for blocking in color, a medium smallish size for detail stuff. I don't have presets, mostly because I'm too lazy to actually pull down a preset menu to find them. It's easier just to control-click and drag the size slider. (Actually, I'm not even sure it's control... it might be option... you see, the habit is so ingrained, I can't even remember what key I'm pressing. )
