Description
*splitting the Veleek into two pieces; the swarm form and the individual form*An amorphous, dust-like 'creature' (actually several billion tiny creatures) from Saturn (or one of it's moons) able to form blades, teeth, arms, wings, and even functioning eyes on a whim. Water particles disrupt the individual creatures from working together, dissolving the Veleek.

i love the swarms, its even cooler how it can form "body parts" like eyes.

Well when you combine its inability to lift heavy things plus its weakness and think about the fact things that like in water are almost always larger.....rather easy to kill.
I mean, most animals above the size limit are in water!

Great, but I imagined it even crazier; an ever-changing cloud of hooked arms, teeth, thorny wings, and other appendages. The mouth could maybe form from arbitrary openings between the arms.

This creature terrified me in the book. The concept of sticking your hand in what appeared to be a cloud of sand and pulling back a stump was more than my adolescent mind could bear. None the less, this is a beautiful rendition, exactly how I invisioned it!

My mental image of this thing was a lot more surreal: basically an incoherent mass of wings and eyes surrounding the buzzsaw mouth.
Whether that says good or bad things about my imagination, I'm not sure.

When I read the book, I imagined the veleek being similar to the galilash, and I thought the book implied that it WAS saturn, not from saturn.
