Glad to be an inspiration
I feel the need to mention some things to keep in mind tho (and i don't mean this in an arrogant condescending way). This style is veeery popular. Much because it's so easy for anyone to make or download all the standard elements (eg. 45° arrows, city sillouettes, planes, stars, grungy fonts, flowers, curlys etc) and then mix them together in a supposedly "new" way. I for one think you should create whatever you want aslong as you enjoy it. But from a viewers point it becomes more interesting to look at something with a personal touch and with less conformity, besides: trying new things leads to learning new things.
However trends are inevitable to completely block out, but i think you can keep some perspective of things if you just keep asking yourself "why?" during the creation process. For example Why do i put this detail here? Is this plane sillouette just what i've been looking for? Does it serve my idea or theme? or is it just complementary eyecandy? I think any reason is as good really, because as long as there is reason no one can hold that against you.
Anyway, hope i didn't bore you to death with this... if not just keep on smiling and creating dude - art is fun!

No worries man
Well, i don't mean to discourage you, but i don't see myself near any higher level of experience or skill, i'm still a noob in this game. (adding to that, i do sometimes see the work of the so called professional elite and almost vomit from shear embarrassment, which just proves that there is so much more to it than just artistic talent in this business i guess)
Anyway, I started playing around in photoshop and other photo editing software about 5-6 years ago, just having some fun on my spare time with no particular aim. Then later on it got more serious, creating flyers, t-sirt prints, stickers and stuff for friends and people i knew. Nothing spectacular but it was good fun and a good experience too. But i've never attended any official designcourses or artstudies sofar, although i should probably recommend some kind of bachelor education in digital art or media, for those hyperactive girls and boys.. i'm way too cool for that right now tho

very trendy... this piece is cool because of its composition... it has so many different areas that are interesting in themesleves that all come together to make this awesome pic... specifically the lower left with the graffiti wall and such... you should def do more work like this... I like your 3D stuff but this i think is far more marketable and could be making you money... anyway this is really awesome and im going to fav it...
