Description Since my Friday the 13th "Lady Lux" piece, I have been wanting to feature Lux in another one of my pieces. I didn't feel that that piece did her justice, so I started planning a proper pin up style piece of Lux from League of Legends which didn't look like a seedy tattoo.

I wanted to keep Lux looking soft, doll like and innocent, but I also wished to portray her powers of light and prismatic energy. I am also a huge fan of Art Nouveau and wanted to try my hand at that sort of design. So I decided to merge the two into this one singular piece.

I worked rather quickly once I realized what i wanted to do, filling out the figure and the fact and hair last Thursday, finishing off the body on Friday and Monday of this week, and did the whole of the background today.

I'm really quite pleased with how this came out, the composition and the Nouveau style I find really exciting and hope to do much more in this style.

I hope that Lux is more identifiable in her basic armor outfit, and hope that one day I can see this piece painted, I think the riot of rainbow prisms could make the piece truly pop.

Anyway I hope others like this as much as I do.

Cheers
~K

You have a real flare for Nouveau, this is my first attempt. Any wisdom you want to share with a Nouveau Nooblette?

thank you! my best advice is study the masters of that period. and not just the artists, i get a lot of ideas and inspiration from nouveau architecture, especially by Antoni Gaudi, he was so wacked! other than that, keep the concepts of that style in mind - organic motifs, curving sinuous lines and harmonious design. you're def off to a good start! btw...nouveau nooblette? lol classic!

Oh I agree one of my favorite movies of all time is Metropolis, the set although is supposedly representative of Art Deco style, Fritz was inspired by New York City Architecture of the 20's. The lines and visual carnival ride of Metropolis in my mind is just a more industrialized, less organic version of Nouveau. Like the difference of the era between Paris and New York. America's industrialization vs. France's old world influence of flowers and vines. Just the way my brain process it, I could just be talking out my ass

haha thats interesting and certainly in some ways one can say that Art Deco was indeed an industrialized less organic proigression from nouveau...it was a natural progression with the coming of the machine age and mass production etc etc. Deco often used motifs from nature but more angular and streamlined.
i am huge fan of Metropolis (and silent films in gerneal), seen it many times throughout my life. in fact the head dress worn by Catwoman in this picture of mine [link] was directly inspired by robot Maria's head adornment in her dance sequence to this day every time i watch that film i am dazzled by the idea that it was made in 1927!

I do really love this piece, I'm a huge Selina Kyle fan (I even named my kitty after her) and the piece you linked is very, stark lined but also has a lot of impact in the simplicity of it. I also love the graceful quality to her look. You captured all three styles of character concept and homage very well.

well although you no longer have the original you could always buy a print from DA of the piece for your own records.

For me it was mainly flowers. I'm one of those types that I could be having the worst day possible and the sight of a flower could turn me into a dazed and stupidly happy puddle. So whenever I was having a bad day i would paint or sketch flowers. This is what my mom mainly has. BTW just saw you live in VT too, small world and even smaller state!

Oooh the Islands, I used to go up there every summer when I was a teen, between Isle Lamotte and another small island I honestly don't know the name of, which is maybe not even a mile all around. Its gorgeous up there, sort of wild and unsettled. Mucho envious! I live in Addison county, vally girl my whole life ( well other than a few years spent elsewhere in the country)Vermont really is a constant orgy for the eye. I'm always struck at least once a day with how beautiful it is here. Also you MUST post the flower painting!

it must be either North Hero (where my mom lives) or Alburgh (where i live) its very pretty in the spring into early fall but sure is ugly right now haha!...addison county, i'll have to look that up not familar with that. probly driven through it tho. i will post that flower commission but it doesnt have to be done until early april

MoonlitLady In reply to Artman2112 [2013-02-13 18:27:48 +0000 UTC]

*pouts at the april promise of flowers* after looking up both I don't think its either, the island is very small there is only room for two camps on it and you have to get there by boat. I will have to go and ask my Dad if he knows. in either event even in the brown slushy season of February it must be beautiful up there, as it is here. And Hell the snow keeps us inside to write and draw more.

now, now, no pouting!!! ok i never heard of this tineh island so let me know when you find out. my stepdad goes fishing all over the islands so he will know what it is i'm sure. yeah the snow and the bad cold i have right now are def keeping me inside drawing and sleeping! i see addison county is south of shelburne. i've been through there many times heading down rt 7. i love the shelburne museum, been there 3 times now. awesome place, i could get lost in that world of old stuff and that boat, i wanna live on it! ever been there?

MoonlitLady In reply to Artman2112 [2013-02-13 18:46:08 +0000 UTC]

I travel Rt 7 2 times daily on my commute to work in Essex Junction, and while Shelburn is quite pretty (I'm a major sucker for the old world stuff myself ) I always feel so bad that so many visitors only every see vermont by the light of Rt 7 headlights. I have actually been to Shelburn farms many many times, have you been to Basin Harbor? I do love the lake, the view from the top of the hill south of Shelburn gives you a great panorama of Basin Harbor to the south and then Burlington lakefront to the north.

oh dear thats quite a ride to essex junction no? thats about an hour from here i think. i pass on through there all the time for various shopping and other fun/not fun things. picked up a friend at the train station there too. i have yet to see shelburne farms but i wanna go this summer. basin harbor, no i dont think i was ever there. i dont get out much, lol

MoonlitLady In reply to Artman2112 [2013-02-13 18:58:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah my commute is 1.5 one way, twice daily thats 3 hours in the car. and well doesn't everyone in VT go to Burlington and surrounding for all the fun and shopping to do? St. Albans isn't to bad, nor is Montpelier but Burlington is really where we all go, and dont even mention Rutvegas! Its actually something we say here in Addison county "we're an hour from everything." an hour to Burlington, and Hour to Rutland, and an Hour to Montpelier.I honestly dont have much time to get out much myself, 55 hours of work a week, by the time the weekend rolls around if I can fit in time for painting I'm a happy camper. However if you should check out Shelburn farms, they have started hosting concerts there now as well beyond just the VTSymphony OC and Shakespear on the green. I'm still looking to check out Hildene myself.

which art gallery? i had a horrible experience this past spring, my buddy was up for a few days on business and took a couple days off to hang out and we drove all the way to the clark museum in mass only to find they are renovating and most of the art was not on display 4 hours each way, totally wasted day. i was sooooo pissed!

Ah well I went to Middlebury college art gallery, was so cold on saturday though, made me want to just stay home under the covers and watch movies. I ended up really only going out until later. I have lived and traveled around much of New England but I have never yet been to Mass or to Boston, I really should go.

Its pretty good, but like all galleries it depends on the show currently going on and what your interested in. However it looks wonderful, has great acoustics. Its more post modern building if that explains things more?
